People in Ohio, Michigan and several other states found themselves unable to use their food stamp debit cards on Saturday, after a routine check by vendor Xerox Corp. resulted in a system failure. Shoppers from Maine to Oklahoma had to abandon baskets of groceries because they couldn't access their benefits.
Ohio's cash and food assistance card payment systems went down at 11 a.m., said Benjamin Johnson, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Ohio's cash system has been fixed, however its electronic benefits transfer card system is still down. All states that use Xerox systems are affected by the outage.

The article mentions people not being able to feed their kids. That would mean they don’t even keep a day’s worth of food on hand? Wow.

Cards dont work on Saturday; riots begin on Monday, followed by martial law on Tuesday.Followed by a coup d'état on Wednesday?
Make it so.

Is this a practice run, maybe, for the inevitable day when the EBT cards really do not work?
This is what will happen when 75 million EBT cards all flash Error:

How timely. Yesterday I was at a local health food store getting me some bulk flour and rolled oats. A nicely dressed and portly woman of Obamian persuasion asked an older worker there for help. She was looking for powdered golden seal. The guy took her to the bin and told her to help herself with the plastic baggie and the scooper. The lady then mumbled something and the employee asked her to speak up. She asked, “Will my Link cover this?” Link is an Illinois version of EBT. The guy tells her the store doesn’t accept link. And her soft demeanor turns on the dime. She asks, loudly, “Why not?” And the man, bless his heart, told her, “Because it’s our store and we don’t want to.” She dropped her baggie on the bin and literally stomped her way a 2012 SUV and drove away. The man and I shared a look and a smile.

Hey, Travis, the article says some folks were angry (but no report of violence). Extrapolating forward, maybe day one of an outage won’t bring violence, but it starts on day two. Perhaps on day one, they will think it’s going to be fixed, but day two means grab it and run - over people if necessary.

Given current trends, many folks do not cook meals at home, or keep food in the house other than snack food. Neighbor lady takes her six young ‘uns out to eat every day, three meals a day at local fast food outlets. Not once have I ever seen her bringing groceries home. Many like her out there. Those children may go hungry tonight. Life is all about choices. Stood in line to spend what cash you had on those new "Jordans," and iPhone 5 did ya'? Hope they taste good.
