Racist dogs.
Actually, I had a racist dog at one time. He was a German Shepherd, whom we rescued from the pound. When we got him, he was obviously traumatized. We were told that he had been abused, kept chained to the back porch by his owner, a black man who lived in White Plains. When the owner failed to pay the rent, he was eventually kicked out of the house and left the dog behind, chained to the porch.
Anyway, long story short, whenever Brownie saw a black man walking by, he would start to growl and bark, recalling his unhappy puppyhood. It was pretty embarrassing—I’d have to drag him back the other way, until the man he was growling at had gone by, out of sight.
Heard that story more than once.
Years ago we lived in a small Texas town, it was very segregated. The black part of town was called “the quarter” by blacks and whites alike. A white person on foot in the quarter would get barked at and was very likely to get bitten. This was well understood by all. The dogs didn’t do that to the black people. The dogs in the white neighborhoods might bark at blacks or whites, or not bark at all depending on their mood. We always laughed about black peoples dogs being racist.
So a black man from White Plains had a dog named Brownie who was racist?
Had a lab/chow shelter dog that would have no part of anyone of color.
be it strange non-white delivery men or a black friend of mine who was frequently at my house.
She wanted their throats
I had a dog that was racist. He had no problems with blacks but he hated Mexicans. Since he was a 150 lb Great Dane and our mailman was Mexican-American, that created problems.
