The Department of Defense unit charged with recovering servicemembers remains abroad has been holding phony arrival ceremonies for seven years, with an honor guard carrying flag-draped coffins off of a cargo plane as though they held the remains returning that day from old battlefields.
The Pentagon acknowledged Wednesday that no honored dead were in fact arriving, and that the planes used in the ceremonies often couldnt even fly, and were towed into position. The story was first reported on nbcnews.com.

What you said!
Yup exactly.
I don’t see the point.
This doesn’t make sense.
BIG government putting on a puppet show to keep the low/no information types happy and give them warm fuzzies about DemocRATS.
Sounds like lame theater.
Is this the military or a civilian org. within the DOD?
Don't know. http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/index.php?page=mission_overview&size=100&ind=0
They could hold the ceremony taking the remains from the lab to somewhere else. They don’t need the prop C-17 or to pretend that the servicemember “just arrived” if they’ve had to bring them into the lab to do the DNA analysis and ID them.
I have no issue with them holding a ceremony to honor a fallen American being identified. I do have an issue with them doing this stupid Kabuki theater of putting them on the bus, sneaking them over to a non-functional C-17, then acting like they “just arrived” when they’ve been at JPAC for a while being identified. Why lie? Honor those whose remains have been positively identified, you don’t need a plane to do that.

Mostly during the Bush administration, I’ll bet.
This has McCain stink on it, I bet.
GOOD thinking, or JFKerry’s.
Yes!
My Dad spent 27 years in. 3 wars, and he died in Vietnam. I did 25 years in, although the ‘combat time’ I got flying was NOTHING like what my Dad went through. My son has done 2 combat tours with the Army. My son-in-law did 2 tours in Iraq with the USMC in infantry.
But the honor and integrity I expected was slipping away even before I retired in 2008. And now? Like the rest of our society, it has turned upside down, with evil being called good and good evil.
The Government,Like a fish is rotting from the head first. This government lead by Obama is truly rotten.
How does anyone watching know if there really are remains in those boxes?

Key sentence: “... a TURF WAR between The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command and the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office, which shares some of the same responsibilities....”
The POW/MIA office has the primary mission of finding MIAs, while JPAC is to identify the remains. Thus I see the turf war as a contributing factor in this deception along with the following from the article: “In 2010, [CONGRESS] mandated JPAC to reach an annual goal of recovering at least 200 fallen troops from overseas battlefields by 2015....”
By the above sentence CONGRESS reinforced the turf war by giving JPAC some of the mission that POW/MIA is responsible for. Once again, COSTLY DUPLICATION. And I’m guessing that the “200 bodies per year” is behind the JPAC ceremonial deception.
I really don’t have a problem with this ceremony. It is a way to publically honor the deceased and to portray their return from overseas.
