Truck Convoy Protest Causing Traffic Problems on Capital Beltway (Live Thread)
CBS ^ | Friday, October 11, 2013

Posted on 10/11/2013 6:30:47 AM PDT by kristinn

A convoy of tractor-trailers planning to circle the Capital Beltway in protest of the federal government has begun its descent on the Washington area and is causing some traffic problems for the morning commute.

The “Truckers Ride for the Constitution,” which organizer Zeeda Andrews said could attract as many as 3,000 big rigs to the nation’s capital, only had about 10 participants as of 8:30 a.m.

Andrews insists the convoy is meant to be a peaceful protest rather than a traffic clog. The organizer said Thursday that reports of the trucks planning to take up three lanes of the Beltway were inaccurate, and that they should only occupy one lane of traffic.

But WNEW’s John Domen, who began following the trucks as they drove north past a truck stop on Interstate-95 in Dumfries, Va., said trucks were taking up all four lanes of the Inner Loop of the Beltway in Annandale, Va. and had slowed to 10 mph, blocking traffic from getting by.

NO ONE knows what this is about, that's what I'm telling you. FR is the only place I've seen or heard mention of this anywhere. I'm not knocking the effort, per se, but if something like this is going to be undertaken and the point is to inform and persuade people, a better job needs to be done letting them know what's going on. Clogging up an already hellish commute, on a Friday, in the pouring rain, is not going to have the effect you want.

The media needs to be next. They are the root cause of all this crap, and we need to let them know that we know it. All of us.

Yes! This is the best tactic for our movement. We should picket and harass every MSM goon we encounter.

Don’t worry, sounds like it was alot of bluster. Possibly reduced greatly because of the rain.

Yea, that’s it, the rain. Can’t be bothered to drive my truck around in the rain.

This country is done. Get over it. Figure out how to take care of yourself and those you care about.

CWII, monumentally stupid

I agree but some believe that is what the fraud wants and this trucker's protest clogging DC will do. After all, big trucks can run over cop cars.

There are plenty of people in the DC area who travel 495 everyday who are on the same side as “the heartland.” Not everyone associated with the federal govt is an SEIU thug.

Sorry FRiend, but I disagree with you. IMHO, the overwhelming majority of the people on the 495 have benefited greatly from the Washington & Wall Street war waged on Main Street.

The DC Metro area has the lowest unemployment and highest property values in the country. They have felt no pain during the Obama recession; indeed, they have thrived.

I daresay these people could give a rat's arse about the difficulties endured by these truckers. An hour of inconvenience is a small price for them to pay.

I would not be happy being behind someone road-hogging, and breaking the law like this for any cause.

Nobody else knows what this is about, this is a meaningless effort. It’s also jerky.

Want to make a point? Go fill DC streets with trucks, thousands of them, not a couple dozen lane hogs blocking commerce.

Don’t eff with regular joe’s.

So you’re saying the intent of this was to piss off people just for the sake of pissing them off, then? If so, conservatism has been set back by years.

“This just pisses off regular citizens...”

If DC were populated by “regular citizens” there’d be no need for any protest.

I grew up there. They have no industry beyond the passing of laws and regulations constricting the freedoms of the people. The currency in use is either raw units of political power, the small coins of passive aggressive bureaucratic power, or the paper money they manufacture and then steal from the rest of the country at the muzzle of a gun. That was becoming clear by the time I left in 1972. A truly evil energy of enormous weight had settled on the city when I was last there a decade ago. It’s beyond the imagination of most “regular citizens” now.

Hardly. The truckers, in their view, have no other viable way of expressing their grievances.

Conservatism set back by "years"? That is being accomplished by the men and women we sent to Washington DC, after they ran on promises of reducing the scope of government. People like John Cornyn and Pete Sessions who have become fully immersed in the ways of Washington, more concerned with their perqs and power of their offices than they are the people who sent them there.

“10,000 truckers are expected to continually circle the Beltway for three days, taking up two lanes and keeping a third clear to allow access for emergency vehicles.”

The truckers are more concerned for people than Benghazi Barry and his minions are.

Like I posted on another thread I will be in the vicinity late tonight. Curious to see what is going on. I will be able to tell when I stop for fuel. Hopefully there will be a better turn out Sat. Too many are finishing up their week Friday morning.

My boss told me to stay off 495. He was told pics will be taken of trucks participating and to expect FMCSA audits if your truck is in a picture. A truck is a rolling billboard for the company.

I’m not sure I’d trust the traffic cams...I watched a few during the bikers’ ride into DC. Didn’t see much. Then, I read articles that suggested “someone” (in the DOT?) looped video to make it look like no bikers showed up.

Kinda like they did in the movie “Speed”.

Considering this administration and it’s use of Alinsky tactics, I don’t doubt it for a second.
