Obama knows he needs to make his big move soon. It won’t be long before aspirants start gearing up to replace him and his eventual exit becomes becomes more apparent. At that point he is truely a lame duck. But no, he want’s to seize control before others try to take the stage from him. He will manufacture a crisis to exploit, and the current stalemate may be the basis for it. He has no regard for law, our country or the Constitution. He’s a despot wannabe.

“The second possibility would be that President Obama, because of laws that are already on the books, would have the power to declare a ‘national catastrophe’ and simply assume the leadership of the government.”

And...what ‘laws that are already on the books’ are these? Inquiring minds want to know.

If anyone circumvents Congress for debt issuance the 14th Amendment’s Constitutional guarantee of paying the debt would be nullified since that debt was issued without Constitutional authority.

IMO.

End of America’s power. End of the dollar being the reserve currency. End of anyone lending money to America.

I’m not sure Obama would risk it.

He screwed up the Syrian situation badly and has now painted himself into a corner whereby he will suffer tremendous political damage if he concedes anything to Republicans. But if he doesn’t give in, there’s no telling how much he’ll be blamed for any ensuing economic chaos. He’s walking on very thin political ice and could fall through at any moment.

That which cannot be openly written, but is without a doubt simultaneously harbored deep within the hearts by millions of Americans both in and out of uniform who will be damned if they allow their country to be seized like that by one stark raving wild narcissitic man, is alluded to in this post.

**********************************************************

So far he doesn’t seem to hesitate to do stuff that brings the end of America’s power and end of the dollar as the reserve currency, so don’t you ever wonder whether that’s exactly what he wants?

>Obama has lost track of what country he is in.<

.
He knows exactly what country he’s in.

He is poised to pound the last nail into its coffin with the help of both parties.

Heck, the 14th amendment grants no “power” to anyone to pay debts, it just establishes a responsibility to pay them. Furthermore, the amendment reinforces explicitly that it is Congress who has that responsibility, not the President.

Our elected big daddy is already considered ignorant among the world powers. The US is the only place he has any negligible power. Ever the showman peddling his con of cures which suck blood and money from decent people. Change will come when more people awaken to the disease around them.

the “first ever default” meme is false. There have been short term defaults in past history - most recently I believe in ‘79 for few days, but there were larger ones as discussed herein:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/43140915

http://mises.org/daily/5463/

http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/moneymatters/a/Has-US-Ever-Defaulted-On-Its-Debt.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovereign_default

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/8639896/The-last-time-the-US-defaulted-and-blamed-the-printer.html

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2013/01/heres-what-happened-the-last-time-the-us-defaulted-on-its-debt/267205/

The last two are specific to the ‘79 default which was more of a glitch for a few hours and the wikipedia also lists several state defaults.

Long and short is we have defaulted numerous times and we are still here.

If he makes the grab things will be “interesting” as he has no basis for it.
