Senator John Cornyn on Obamacare and 'Republican on Republican violence'
examiner.com ^ | 10/10/13

In a heated radio interview with Texas-based Matt Patrick of KTRH Wednesday, Senator John Cornyn awkwardly defended himself from charges that he did not support Senators Mike Lee and Ted Cruz in their efforts to defund the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, as nicely laid out by Matthew Boyle of Breitbart.

According to Boyle, a "a senior congressional staffer" told Breitbart that "Instead of helping Cruz with their power as Senate GOP leaders, [Senate Minority Leader Mitch] McConnell and Cornyn are working against him." Indeed, the staffer did not mince words and said,

““To be clear, nobody is fighting harder to make sure Obamacare is funded than Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn...”

With this in mind, Matt Patrick adeptly challenged Senator Cornyn, who gave a flimsy defense along the lines of conceding that he did not support Ted Cruz' tactic of delivering a 21-plus hour speech against funding Obamacare because he thought that it was politically a bad idea.

He made the claim before, as reported by Todd J. Gillman of Dallas News, who reported that Cornyn said,

““I assure you that I try to make the decisions I make based on the merits and not based on political risk.”

But in the same article, Gillman wrote, "Cornyn has argued that with only 46 seats, Republicans should focus on winning control of the Senate next year rather than risking a shutdown that would damage the country and badly harm the party’s image." Worrying about the "image" of the party seems to be a political motivation.

During the radio interview, Cornyn said that the focus on Obamacare was "water under the bridge," and wanted to go on to discuss the debt ceiling.

“Cornyn has argued that with only 46 seats, Republicans should focus on winning control of the Senate next year”

Reminder that Cornyn himself was the chairman of the NRSC for the last two cycles that endorsed and supported loser after loser and every possible moderate (Specter, Crist, Murkowski) over every possible conservative.

Cornyn is a lying, conniving schyster!

"....Republicans should focus on winning control of the Senate next year"

This is the same ineffectual GOPe Strategery used for a decade or better that has brought the GOPe squat for POTUS for the last 8 years and squatters in the Senate for the same period.

Clearly Cornyn is one of the 27 GOPe RINOs in the Senate voting WITH Dingy and against the People. This Senate "Leader" needs to have his butt kicked out of DC.

I live in the 1st Congressional District and, while I would hate to lose Louie Ghomert as our rep, I would LOVE to see him challange Cornyn in the primaries. Pair Louie with Ted and Texas would have a dymanic duo in the Senate.

Shutdowns don’t have any long term negative economic consequences. The last was 1996 and we had the largest economic boom in the following 5 years than any other time in the past 25 years. In the 80s, which was a time of huge economic growth, we had 6 shutdowns.

Once again the ‘wizards of smart’ on our side buy into the false beltway narrative. They are suckers.

We need the NAMES of staffers/consultants that are on the payroll of Cornyn and the rest...not the telephone answering folks but the sleazy behind the scenes types. They cross over and work with other Senators but no one knows their names.
We need the LIST!!!

I received a letter of explanation from my Senator John Boozman of AR essentially claiming the same BS. He also voted for cloture, did not support Sen Cruz and Lee then had the audacity to tell me he voted for defunding Obamacare. All these RINOs think the same thing....we the people are too stupid to figure out what is going on.

I had faith in Boozman that he would do the right thing as a so called Conservative. Guess I was wrong on that one.

Those weren’t moderates. Those were Democrats.

First, we need a premier challenger. More desultory candidates won’t take out Cornyn.

Cornyn's handpicked Senate candidates:

Arlen Specter - Democrat
Charlie Crist - Democrat
Lincoln Chafee - Democrat
Lisa Murkowski - Independent

Republican candidates stabbed in the back:

Ken Buck
Sharon Angle
Christine O'Donnell
Joe Miller
Larry Elder
Charlie Summers

“Cornyn has argued that with only 46 seats, Republicans should focus on winning control of the Senate next year”

And not for ideological reasons, but just to have control of the bribe money.

"During the radio interview, Cornyn said that the focus on Obamacare was "water under the bridge,"

Along with the IRS scandal, government spying, Benghazi, etc., etc...

This is what makes John Cornyn so great- the man's a true fighter...(/sarc)

What a stupid comment. Anyone with half a brain should know that Reps will NEVER get favorable press. he’s out of touch with reality. He’s sooooo lost my support. Corncob, you gotta GO!

Cornyn has already started running campaign commercials on Austin radio.

I guess my mail to him to “stand with Cruz or we will vote you out”, has someone worried.

Texas is a big state. They should be able to find a Cruz clone somewhere.
