Washington (CNN) - Republican Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin broke his relative silence on the ongoing government shutdown in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece . .
chairman of the House Budget Committee - argues in the editorial that in order to "end this stalemate," Democrats and Republicans should focus on "modest reforms to entitlement programs and the tax code."
"Right now, we need to find common ground," Ryan wrote. "We need to open the federal government. We need to pay our bills today and make sure we can pay our bills tomorrow. So let's negotiate an agreement to make modest reforms to entitlement programs and the tax code."
Not once, however, does Ryan mention tying Obamacare - President Barack Obama's signature health care law - with funding the government. By doing so, Ryan appears to distance himself from many House Republicans who are demanding that the passage of a continuing resolution be contingent on the health care law being tweaked or delayed the first step in an effort they hope to use to dismantle it.
Instead of mentioning Obamacare, the Republican congressman focuses on forced spending cuts on domestic and military programs known as the sequester - and reforms to Medicare.
. .
Ryan's Obamacare omission appeared to anger conservatives, who took to Twitter in response.
Amanda Carpenter, a speechwriter and senior communications adviser to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, tweeted, "There is one big word missing from this op-ed. It's start with an O and ends with BAMACARE."
"Much like White House press, Paul Ryan doesn't mention Obamacare in WSJ oped," tweeted Dan Holler, spokesman for the conservative group Heritage Action.
Conservative activist Erick Erickson retweeted the following tweet: "It seems like Paul Ryan has successfully pissed off the right."

Tangential Ted Cruz Ping!
Paul Ryan Sell-Out!
Paul Ryan needs to feel wrath
Well there goes any plans for his re-election.
If you cannot stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.... too bad, we were doing so well...
Paul has disappointed us...
A CR w/o Obamacare already creates a deficit of $1.7T
That $1.7T adds to a now $17T debt
All proposed “modest” reductions amount $3B or $.3T
Obamacare will add $ 2T+ in annual deficit spending
Our children will have a $ 51T debt to service in 10yrs.
Then the other “unfunded” liabilities of $ 75T?
Paul lost his calculator
>> Paul Ryan needs to feel wrath
Ryan is a starry-eyed academic happy to take any position requiring skills in economics. He’s not a leader — he’s just a mechanic.
I’m good with keeping the leviathan shut down. What exactly are the repercussions? Will China repo airforce one? Will the IT staff charged deploying the barrycare get outsourced to Mumbai? No more $4,689 toilet scrubbers for NASA? Seriously, should I care?
Paul Ryan will be as bad as McPain in a few more years. I wish he and McPain too would switch parties.
Ryan - “We need to pay our bills today”
We need to stop racking up these massive bills so we can pay the ones we already have
“Hes not a leader hes just a mechanic.”
Not touching my car.
Paul RINO needs to be worried about his job to protect and defend the constitution. This is a showdown of a constitution crisis he and his weak kneed buddies helped create. Man up grow some balls and restore the constitution you RINO.

Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors. [but hes not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.
Ryan has become a huge disappointment. First supporting amnesty, second not stopping ObamaCare. What happened to Ryan?
