14 Caribbean nations sue Britain, Holland and France for slavery reparations…

Posted on 10/10/2013 9:18:04 AM PDT by Olog-hai

Britain is being sued, with France and the Netherlands, by 14 Caribbean countries, which are demanding what could be hundreds of billions of pounds in reparations for slavery.

Around 175 years after Britain freed its last slaves in the West Indies, an alliance of Caribbean nations is demanding to be repaid for the “awful” lingering legacy of the Atlantic slave trade.

Caricom, a group of 12 former British colonies together with the former French colony Haiti and the Dutch-held Suriname, believes the European governments should pay—and the UK in particular. It has hired the British law firm Leigh Day, which recently won compensation for hundreds of Kenyans tortured by the British colonial government during the Mau Mau rebellion of the 1950s. …

The first slaves that were brought to the New World were white. Politically correct history books call them "indentured servants" but in practice they were slaves. The white slaves were too ornery and didn't take to the subtropical clime of the Mid-Atlantic colonies so the docile and hardy African slave, bought from other Africans, became more popular.

Instead of reparations give them repatriation.

The British have already paid their dues dedicating whole squadrons of Royal Navy ships to suppress the slave trade from 1807 onwards. That was an expensive business, and far more meaningful in wiping out the stain of slavery from Britain’s soul than screwing over Britain’s long-suffering taxpayers, none of whome were alive at the time, to give money to people who not only never suffered from transatlantic slavery, but won’t even have known anyone who was.

We in America are going back to it with giant government and forced taxation for things we don't need or want.

Well then...

They should sue Moslem Africa.

It was the African Moslems who started the African slave trade and are running it to this very day.

Oh, and would they rather be born under a British, Dutch, or French flag in the Caribbean, or in one of the African dystopias?

Obamacare can IMO send a lot of people over the edge.

I would never advocate violence, but I can see how some folks shocked at the bad health insurance and great cost could go postal.

I think a lot of America could be on a hair trigger regarding their wallets, and all Obama has been doing is to tap it and ruin the private sector economy.

I don't see how the people can be gone after so strongly for so long with out some kind of push back.

Lets hope they stay civil and keep it to the ballot box.

Obama reminds me of Tom Bradley during the LA riots. That Mayor came out on TV and after cops were not found guilty with Rodney King he said he did not understand how there could not be riots. Within minutes we got fires and riots.
The same way Obama and Democrats are talking end of the world economic collapse and all other kinds of stuff that will IMO eventual set off a problematic response.

Dumb President and equally Dumb Democrats in power.

—Not all of the slaves went to the original colonies.
I believe more slaves went to Brazil than the 13 original colonies. —

And a larger percentage of them died in Brazil as well as opposed to those who were enslaved in North America.
