A "very disturbed" President Obama has ordered his top aides to restore death benefits today for families of military service members killed in action.
"The president was very disturbed to learn of this problem," said White House press secretary Jay Carney. "The president expects this to be fixed today. He was not pleased."

Last night on The Kelly File, Rep Duncan Hunter (R-Calif)--- He has a fallen hero in his district who died during the shutdown. I haven't seen this point made anywhere else in the press:

THAT does cover THIS [death gratuity]....We actually saw this coming. That's why we passed that bill. This is an on-purpose, in-your-face middle-finger, as you said so eloquently to the military families. This is nothing other than that.

KELLY: The Penegon Comptroller came out and said, "Well we've had a number of people die recently and we will be able to pay them but not until the lapse of these appropriations problems." They are going to get their money just as soon as YOU, basically, get your act in order. He is putting it back on Congress, and the DOD is putting back on Congress.
They came out and said, "Congress was warned prior to the shutdown that these benefits would be stopped even despite your efforts to legislatively head this off, your legislative efforts only protect the service men and women and not the families"---and that you blew it because that was a LOOPHOLE and you should have seen this coming.
DUNCAN: Let me take off my Congress hat and put on my Marine hat; That statement sickens me---because here is the reason why. We explicitly asked if THIS was going to be covered when we passed that pays for this, and they said YES! This is the DOD trying to cover their own tail on this. They made the wrong decision, and they need to fix it.....

These soldiers were killed following his orders.
Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center, commented, “I cannot conceive of any other president in our history doing what Obama is doing in this situation. As Commander in Chief, he signed the orders sending these young men into harm’s way. They died following his orders. Now he is denying their families the military’s “death gratuity” normally given within 3 days of the death, which covers funeral expenses and travel to Dover Air Force Base to receive the flag draped casket that holds their fallen hero. President Obama is callously adding to the unimaginable grief and the heavy burden these surviving loved ones carrying just to score some political points.”

Why do we have a system which lets the president unilaterally determine what gets funded and what doesn't, determine who is exempt from Obamacare and who isn't, determine which foreign regimes get funding and which do not???
This is no longer a Constitutional Republic governed by the rule of law. It is an Oligarchy governed by the rule of men.

Congress voted earlier this year SPECIFICALLY to avoid this. The only way it could possibly have happened was if someone made a purely political calculation to try and make it look like the shutdown’s fault so they could blame it on the GOP, and then ordered the payments not to be made.
Sickening and disgusting...but right in keeping with Obama’s modus operandi all along.
