Via the Corner, the exciting conclusion to Friday afternoons drama about the Dems trying to force Boehner to bring a clean CR to the floor. Pelosi sent a letter to him on Saturday signed by 195 House Democrats calling for a vote; that means all shed need for a successful discharge petition is 22 House Republicans to sign too and coincidentally, there are 22 House Republicans whove said things to the effect that a clean CR would be awfully nice right now. Peter King, whose incessant Cruz-bashing has made him the new de facto RINO Pope, is of course one of them. Surely hell sign Pelosis petition, then, right?
Nope. Its not going to go anywhere, he says, and hes right. Like I said Friday, its one thing to bash the Cruz wing and call for an end to the shutdown, its another to promise your vote to Nancy Pelosi. If youre going to jump off that bridge, you want to make sure the other 21 Republicans whove called for a clean CR are prepared to jump with you. Otherwise, youre risking a ferocious conservative backlash over a discharge petition thatll ultimately fall short of the 217 it needs, which means youve risked everything for nothing. And remember King already has some experience with seeing Great RINO Revolts fall flat.

Oh oh, It looks like the Democrats just lost their (rhetorical) leverage..!
Peter King, the RINO, won’t get a dime from me. He can sign it for all I care.
Are all Democrats going to sign the petition?
It is not a good political move for Mike McIntyre. McIntyre is to the right of Peter King on more important issues. They are not going to sign it after a week.
I think the what will happen is Obama will illegaly raise the debt limit and even the RINOs can use this as a talking point. Saying that even in their own RINO world they would not be as bad as Obama.
“They must have good Margaritas”
And they must take gubmint credit cards, even during the shutdown.
The sad thing is the dems could have gotten the 22 signatures had they waited until they actually got them to sign before bragging about it.
They’ll know better next time, which will be sooner rather than later (raising the debt limit).
It does have a delete button. Just hit the “Report abuse” and let the mods know what needs to be deleted. I’ve hit that button on myself after posting incorrect info.
That’s what I believe.
Peter King is in the House from Long Island.
- OJ as not killed anyone lately either
House Republican leaders have learned that giving King free rein may actually be the only way to deal with him.
He is, after all, the man who said the GOPs romance with Christian evangelicals was turning the party into barefoot hillbillies who go to revival meetings.
He unfailingly supports labor unions.
Or he's worried about keeping his government job.
He could have been saying the things his liberal to moderate constituents want to hear. Nobody knows what GOP pols in blue states really think until they're out of office. Ditto with Democratic pols in red states. You could say they're living a lie. But think about this - how many employees tell their employers what they really think about them? And how many act openly against what their employers have said they want? That's the dilemma of GOP and Democratic pols in blue and red states, respectively.
Pelosi is toxic? who knew??
His district changed for the 2014 election. I don’t know if it contains more dems or republicans. I bet he is afraid of a primary fight draining his campaign funds either way.
The only existence King Rino is thinking about is his own.
I doubt he remembers this, but he might. A certain Edmund Ross who voted against removing Andy Johnson from the Presidency in 1868. There after, his career was toast.
But, why not, Peter? You’ve done lots already to help them. Why quit now?
I think his district went 50 OBama, 48 Romney. But more Republicans are serious voters and vote down ticket.
If he had the votes he’d sign. Pete King is a career politician in a New York burb that leans dem. He knows where his bread is buttered.
