Lake Mead property owners forced out until shutdown ends
KNTV ^ | 10/5/13 | Jacqui Heinrich

The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.

"I had to go to town today and buy Ralph undershirts and jeans because I forgot his pants," Joyce Spencer told Action News.

The Stewart's Point home sits on federal land, so even though the Spencers own their cabin outright, they're not allowed in until the government reopens.

Park officials said property owners can visit only to retrieve belongings; they sent Action News a statement which reads in part, "Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen." Joyce Spencer said she's alright in the meantime, staying with nearby family, but the move was a lot to handle as a senior citizen.

"I had to be sure and get his walker and his scooter that he has to go in," Spencer said. "We're not hurt in any way except it might cost me if I have to go buy more pants."

The Lake Mead properties are considered vacation homes; one of the lease requirements to own a plot is people must have an alternative residence.

Regardless, the Spencers said it's their property and they should be allowed in, shutdown or not.

Where the heck are Republican lawmakers on this? How come they’re not making hay of these types of things and laying the blame at the feet of Obama???

Not sure why people are so meek but my answer would be “Make me.”

I work with relocating & transitioning people just like this couple (downsizing & packing up households, moving them into assisted living, retirement communities or smaller homes). They are not "meek" so much as they can be confused and overly trusting.

Some elderly people are easily disoriented by too much information being thrust at them, and hearing loss and/or beginning dementia can be huge factors. I see how the trauma & upset of a simple relocation, even within the same campus, can afflict a person in their later years. What is being done to these people is absolutely despicable!

I'd bet a month's salary that this story won't see the light of "lamestream news" any day soon. Makes me want to spit!

Well, you know, WE can be news too. We’re on this internet aren’t we? We can read? We can tell? We can post stuff? Do we have Facebook accounts? Let’s quit wailing about what we do not have, and use what we do have, to pierce the ignorance. Before the Lord, the devil’s a paper tiger. The devil’s weapons are lies about what we supposedly can’t do. They are hogwash. Reach for God’s grace and watch the miracles. That simple!

If I had a dollar for every time I'd asked that question over the past five years, I would probably understand what people mean when they say "early retirement". Actually, I'd understand what people mean when they say "retirement".

Exactly. They need to buy air time (MSM won’t report) use pictures and interviews. Take it to the people. Obama would fold like a cheap suit.

republicans only care about the themselves and their rich buddies...blah blah blah.... they deny access to parks because they want to deny healthcare to poor suffering children....blah blah blah

There is no penetrating the low information brain.

In their world - O has NOTHING to do with any of this.

He has always counted on their ignorance - and now they are posting the dumbest internet memes.

Now I know how russians have felt all these years

Well, just some semi-educated spiritual gut guesses. God booked me into an extra special school of hard knocks. Just to prove that yes, wimpy me could come out tough! Once I gave my toughness to Him, denying it thereby to Satan.

Before I got even that far, I'd demand (with cameras running) that the NPS provided the written order for the action. Also the law or regulation of some privilege or service they have always been able to provide me for having my house (with paperwork) on "their" dirt that they cannot do during this "shutdown".

Then bring out your copy of the deed, and start going through it, and ask the federal punk if any section rings a bell in his limited memory.

It’s spiritual, and you have to do it one person at a time sometimes. I’ve been on the libbie side and seen it from inside. It’s a house of cards. The key in, is love. Show them that you care, not that you are there to score a hit on them and leave. Or they will just erect more cards when you go.

hmmm... I suppose you are right.
I haven’t “engaged” in a long time because usually what happens is - they really only want to put their stuff out there.
When they get challenged they usually don’t want to have a conversation - they just seem irritated you would dare respond with anything other than full support.

So frustrating.
I suppose prayer is the only answer.

Oh... and the enemy here isn’t people. It’s spirits of evil. Some people not quite ready to deal with the spirits as spirits could still grasp the concept of abstract evil and that people have a choice whether to grasp that evil or not.

Really petty ones, enslaved to evil, WILL blame individuals as though they were mired in evil (and others are by supposed contrast great pillars of goodness). You can perhaps get them to think at a higher level by asking them questions such as whether something bad they did should tar them for all time. Or whether something good they did should earn them a pass all their lives.

Patience and wisdom are called for. Don’t stop talking to them... you may be the only contrasting point of view they hear. It may need a moment of revelation later in their life to accept it, but they can’t accept what they don’t hear about (unless God puts it direct in their minds, but often God uses people to carry the blessing of truth).
