Woman in DC chase may have thought Obama was stalking her, sources say (He's stalking us all)

The woman who led authorities on a chase from the White House to the Capitol before she was killed by police may have thought that President Barack Obama was stalking her, law enforcement sources told NBC News.

The sources said that the woman, Miriam Carey, had a history of mental health problems.

The chase, on Thursday afternoon, stirred panic in the capital and briefly stopped the mechanisms of government. It happened two weeks after a man shot 12 people to death at the Washington Navy Yard.

Members of the House and Senate, in a standoff over the government shutdown, were ordered to stay in place. One lawmaker was cut off mid-sentence during a speech. A swarm of police startled tourists who were taking in Washington on a summery day.

In retrospect, this situation could certainly have been handled better. But, given the propensity of our real enemies to use explosive laden vehicles as weapons, at that moment they had to make a decision, and the driver was acting like she was trying to do exactly that.

Your basis for that conclusion is pretty thin. It's the kind of militaristic paranoia that is used by police for an enormous number of what can only be described as atrocities in the name of "officer safety." As backup for my seemingly bald assertion, I suggest you read Rise of the Warrior Cop, by Radley Balko. The numbers are there.

What are the odds she’s a T.E.A. Party patriot?

If that was true it would be 24/7 news already

“In real life, shooting out the tires is very dangerous. Bullets tend to bounce off pavement and hit an unintended target”

Have you ever read my tagline? Dude. I am still laughing.

Maybe they thought she had a light saber and the force was with her. :-)

I agree how alarming it seems that the driver was shot. But security has been ramped up around the White House and the Capitol for the past 18 years -- since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. In the age of terrorism, no Free World leaders can't take the chance that a car acting aggressively isn't loaded with explosives. She used the car to ram Secret Service men. They had to defend themselves.

This would have happened under Bush as well -- it's just that the press would have made him look like a murderer over it. It's a miracle and a blessing that the child emerged unharmed.

I couldn’t believe people (Make that cops!) were shooting at the car, either—unless they were aiming low to try to take out the tires.

The mind is a complicated thing—and yes, I believe she could have made it from CT to DC, even taking these drugs. Sometimes, your mind will sorta go on “remote control”.

Have you ever been driving for a long while and start daydreaming, and then you see a sign that tells you that you have driven a lot further than you thought you had?

This poor woman was murdered by Obama’s thugs. BO thought that she might know something about his sordid past that would prove dangerous to his career as a community/nation agitator.

It used to be that the MSM would vilify any police department that killed an unarmed person, especially doing so with a baby in the car.

That only happens when there is a Republican in the White House.

The thing that ammazes me is that with all the ramma jammin she supposedly did the front end of the infinity is pristine.

Personally I think we now live under the Stasi rule. Submit immediately or die. That is the new mindset. Its too much trouble to try to capture someone and so easy to just shoot them. That is what happened yesterday. Barrycade is sending us all a message. Listen up Sheeple you could be next.

“Why did they have to put 15 bullets into the car when they had no indication that she was armed?”

The car itself is considered a weapon when it is used to threaten police. Trying to hit a cop with your car will get you shot.

Those cops were standing right by the driver’s window. The woman had no weapon and all they had to do was shoot out her tires. Then stand back and wait to see if anythng blew up.

Having spent 6+ years volunteering at Walter Reed and seeing real men with horrible injuries from explosives that happened a quarter mile away -- and those were just the ones who lived -- I'd say you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

“Makes a lot more sense when you realize that the part not yet televised has a bunch of non-uniformed SS goons jumping her car, pointing guns at her, and screaming. If you’re in DC and that happens, you better damn well flee or you’re likely dead.”

The video clips I’ve seen show her surrounded by large marked police vehicles with flashing light bars before she drives off. Cant tell whether those pointing guns had badges displayed. Even so its hard to believe she didnt know it was the police she was dealng with. Crazy people do crazy things.

I think you and others are buying into the hysterics that the new regime wants you to buy into. A boogey man and terrorist on every corner and in every car. Don’t drink the Kool Aid.

Your basis for that conclusion is pretty thin.

According to the news, the driver was being chased through the streets around the Capitol at up to 80 mph, after trying to crash through a gate at the White House. From your armchair, it's easy to say: she was mentally ill, she didn't know what she was doing. But, the police didn't know that at the time.

Even without any explosives, that car was effectively a 3000 lb battering ram. Plug 3000 lb and 80 mph in to your calculator, and you get nearly 1.5 megajoules of energy. For comparison, that's about the same as 3/4 lb of high explosives. A 7.62x39 rifle bullet packs only about 3900 joules.

If she was out of the car and had been waving a knife around, I would agree with you: they overreacted. But, if she had been threatening someone with a gun, would have have blamed the police for shooting her?

This is a problem that police face: an automobile can be a deadlier weapon than any handheld firearm. When someone is using as a weapon, what do you do?

If someone had already injured another person by hitting them, and was threatening to do the same to you -- what would you do, if you had a responsibility to stop them?

In all the years I have lived in L.A. (which has car chases every day), I have never seen the cops simply open fire on a vehicle like this during a car chase. They use the spike strips, they try and box the car in, they pursue for miles and miles.

Her "weapon" doesn't appear to show any signs that she ever hit anything with it (at least not the front... perhaps the rear as she was backing up to avoid being shot).

I wish the US Capitol area wasn't "different", but it is. If you have ever been there, it's a nightmare to drive in, and it's full of tourists (even with the shutdown).

Her "weapon" doesn't appear to show any signs that she ever hit anything with it (at least not the front... perhaps the rear as she was backing up to avoid being shot).

According to a report that I read, she did the most damage with the back of her car, including striking and injuring a Secret Service agent (which wouldn't leave much of a mark on the car). But, the whole incident started with her trying to drive through a White House gate. Unless she got a running start at it, it wouldn't have done much damage to the front.

Why would you think that? She was an educated, lovely young woman with a good paying job.

From your armchair, it's easy to say: she was mentally ill, she didn't know what she was doing.

From your armchair maybe, but I've made no such conclusion. She might have been simply terrified.

Even without any explosives, that car was effectively a 3000 lb battering ram.

Your argument here is totally spurious, because at the time she was shot the car was stopped.

But, if she had been threatening someone with a gun, would have have blamed the police for shooting her?

They could see her well enough to know that there was no gun pointed at them.

This is a problem that police face: an automobile can be a deadlier weapon than any handheld firearm.

Back to the false premise eh? Earth to justlurking: that means you don't have an argument. The car was on dirt. Shooting out the tires would have disabled it without spraying fragments anywhere.

If someone had already injured another person by hitting them, and was threatening to do the same to you -- what would you do, if you had a responsibility to stop them?

There is no proof that she was threatening anybody once the car had crashed.

Shooting people is so much easier than doing the job. Safer too. We PAY these officers to take risks. Now, in the name of "officer safety" they just shoot people and collect "hazard pay," including their ridiculous pensions.

We have officers of the San Jose, CA police department making over $250,000 a year. For that kind of money, I can reasonably expect them to take some serious risks to protect and serve.

Best you buy that book and read it. The numbers would shock you.

It’s the part that happened BEFORE what you saw on TV which is most important.

Which is why you haven’t seen it. Because it will show a perfectly reasonable flight reaction to an armed and sudden assault by NON uniformed men.
