Mount Vernon is open. Our parking lots are now open. The barricade was placed in front of Mount Vernons parking lots for a short period (less than 3 hours). Once the National Park Service realized that we own the parking lots, the barricades were removed immediately.
Anything you can do to help get the word out that Mount Vernon and its parking lots are open would be much appreciated!
"Hi XXXX,
Thank you for your concern. It is very touching to hear from so many other people who care about this site so deeply.

I am furious over this attempt to stomp on the home of George Washington, where, by the way, he and Martha are buried. We visited their tomb last month for a special ceremony, then toured the home. It sickens me that this administration actually barricaded the parking lots and caused it to seem that the whole site was closed due to the "shutdown".
Heh. One the NPS “realized” the lot was privately owned. Gosh, it was news to them!
Federal bureaucrats think literally every square inch of this country belongs to them.
This is getting to be beyond absurd! People save up and plan ahead for taking trips to see these famous sites of our founding fathers.
obammy needs to be run out of town on a rail, carrying entire his entourage with him.....
Bwahahaha! LMAO!!!
I believe we need to begin in earnest “The Ten by Ten Square Mile” campaign, to put the entire civilian fedgov back into the DC area.
Easier to cordone off, easier to defend against, easier targeting all around.
I had hoped for a more detailed response from M.V., I suspect they had to jump through big hoops to PROVE that they own the lots and site. I swear, I was sputtering pissed off when I read about this.
It’s “Barrycade”
I stand corrected. :)
Lady—Thank you for the update on this. It is good that the Ladies Society had their hissy fit and got the NPS to get their heads out of rectal defilade.
We have an administration run by 10 year olds throwing tantrums.
Look at the bright side. At least the didnt decide the federal government owns the Interstate Highway System, and shut it down. Yet . . .
There is a whole world out there that Obama didnt build, and doesnt own.
Sue their sorry a$$e$ for loss of revenue, loss of use, and punitive damages for Public Stupidity by a “Public Servant”!!
LOL @ shutting down the interstate highways. Very nice, but don’t encourage them!
Ah, if only!
Yeah, the entrance fee is a little hefty compared to the government subsidized national parks. But well worth it.
I wonder who told the NPS nazis to erect a barricade on land they don't even own.
What is needed is to find out the name of the DC hacks that ordered this!
OK, but I still prefer "baraq-ade" to get that Muslim inflection. (lower case "b" intentional)
Plus if Arlington County goes back to the District of Columbia, it becomes a little easier for the Republicans to carry Virginia in a Presidential election (Arlington goes ‘Rat by a wide margin).
True, it is owned by :
The Mount Vernon Ladies Association
Mount Vernon is owned and maintained in trust for the people of the United States by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association of the Union, a private, non-profit organization (501c3) founded in 1853 by Ann Pamela Cunningham. The Association is the oldest national historic preservation organization in the country, and it has always been in the forefront of the restoration field. It is directed by a Board of Regents, comprised solely of women, who represent nearly 30 states.
