President Obama's 70-minute White House meeting late Wednesday afternoon with congressional leaders, an effort to break the stalemate over the partial government shutdown, did nothing to help end the impasse.
"We had a nice conversation, light conversation," House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said following the meeting, but noted the president repeated that he will not negotiate on dialing back Obamacare.
He added that he hopes that Mr. Obama and Democrats will have a serious discussion about resolving their differences with House Republicans.
"All we're asking for is a discussion and fairness for the American people under Obamacare," he said.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said after the meeting, "We had some candid discussion."
But, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., added, "We are where we are. We're through playing these games" on Obamacare, he added. Earlier Wednesday, Mr. Obama said that Wall Street should be worried about more serious consequences now that the government is closed for business and the debt limit deadline is just around the corner.

My question (and I truly seek an answer):
If no spending is authorized at this point, shouldn’t the debt clock be slowed or even reversed? Or is our government spending so bloated that even when we are barely subsisting we don’t take in enough revenue to run essential needs and services?
The cr funds the various departments of the fedgov. Many other activities like Medicare for example are funded within the law itself. Medicare will not stop so the debt clock will barely slow down.
on cnbc today, one of the floor traders, I can’t remember his name, said that what Obama said during his interview with john harwood was, i’m wlling to listen to anybody, as long as they agree with me.
john harwood, the typical liberal, looks creepily in the camera and says, no he didn’t. so much for a free and fair press.
The media and other democrats didn't have Obama The Choomer to protect and cover for back then.
Guess that Willie the Non-Inhaler looked too “moral” and too, er, alabaster to mount such a campaign for.
Oh, yes it did. We saw starving widows and orphans, Tiny Tim with his crutch, all pointing their fingers at that evil Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole and demanding they get the glorious federal government back up and running. This time around, the Republicans are the ones trying to help the Tiny Tim stories out, and the Dems are the ones refusing to budge. How sweet it is!
Is that guard stopping people from walking up to the Lincoln monument?
What arrogance and disregard for Liberty.
The day will when those who willingly would support a police state will be running for their lives. My hope is that they will be shown no mercy. Such people should not be among us.
I think you may be right - he would probably love to dissolve both houses. I’m not sure he could get away with it, though. Not yet, at least.
Generally, when a dictator takes over what was theoretically a representative form of government, the dictator leaves the representative bodies in place but replaces representatives who don’t agree with him ( usually after having had them arrested on phony charges) or rewrites the Constitution so all power resides with him and his executive acts, which he then declares to have the force of legislative acts. Of course, Obama has been busy issuing executive orders like that since the beginning, so it wouldn’t take much more for him to simply declare that the representative bodies are merely there to write regulatory laws to enforce his orders.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what happens.
I truly think the 1996 election was won by Clinton because the economy was working well at that point and the GOP decided to run Bob Dole as the presidential candidate and who was no where near a match for Clinton.
Obama’s just trying to talk down the economy. He’s acted it down up to this point, now he’s talking it down.
It’s like one of those Halloween horrors that scared you as a kid, but now you just laugh to think it once did.
We need several hundred people with kids and grandparents to charge that guy and visit the Lincoln Memorial. Let them arrest children and old ladies for just looking at a 24/7 open monument shut for a tyrant’s whim.
Instead of just “holding the line”, republicans need to go on the offensive in order to get the democrats to the negotiating table.
The next CR should include language which declares Obama’s 1400+ exemptions as UNCONSTITUTIONAL, and thus rescinded... along with language which accomplishes the same exemptions + everyone else until which time that consumers have a chance to enroll and choose their plan.
If OBAMACARE SUBSIDY HEALTH INSURANCE TAX, aka OSHIT, is such a good investment, then why isnt Mr. Michelle Obama enrolled in OSHIT?
This is OSHIT enrollment day number THREE, Barry: tick-tock - - -
What would it take for Dear Leader to cave on Obamacare? Does the House GOP leadership have any cards they can play on Benghazi, etc.? (assuming they are really willing to play) Anything they can leak to the public? (or threaten to)
IOW: Democrats demanded total surrender and Republicans did not surrender.
The only issue is how much protection can the effete elite media give the DC class.
CNN has already had a surrender RINO capitulating on the air.
Thank you Republicans for not backing down and shutting down the government. Maybe now finally Americans will realize that 99% of the government is not needed. And we might pay off the debt if we keep the EPA ,IRS , NSA etc not funded! this is the best thing ever that Republicans did shutting down the gov and not backing down to the media.
twitter #Holdtheline Republicans
Rush should remind everyone when he humiliated Harry Reid on the air with that absurd letter signed by 40 senators. Rush realized a single document signed by so many senators would have value so he auctioned it off.
It had kennedy, hillary, obama, mccain and other now deceased senators.
