Sam Kass, the fiancé of MSNBC host Alex Wagner, is not considered an “essential” federal employee and has been furloughed as a result of the ongoing government shutdown.
According to food and agriculture writer Eddie Gehman Kohan, who runs the Obama Foodorama blog, Kass, the White House’s assistant chef and executive director of the First Lady’s Let’s Move initiative, is one of the hundreds of White House staffers to be furloughed.

What about Reggie Love? Has Barry deemed Reggie “essential” to his Asian trip?
Isn’t “nonessential” just another way of saying they aren’t worth their salt?
And if they don’t deserve salt (a ‘salary’), why bring ‘em back? Cut ‘em loose!
He's very definitely viewed as an @ssential companion on the trip to @ssia.
Sadly, Food Network or Cooking Channel will give him a gig soon.
Does Dianne Feinstein find his running a blog, as a ‘nonlegal journalist’, as she does every other online journalist????
