There’s nothing like a doorman building. No pests admitted. The doorman keeps a baseball bat under the desk for hard cases.
THe witnesses are no enemy, and thus friends, however I have nothing to talk about with them:
1. THey dont believe Jesus is GOd
2. their peace ganhdi like approach is depressing and demoralizing , and although it makes them good people, what comes after is their clap trap on their religion that I simply cannot deal with.
In other words I find no cooperation from them and they thus cannot find cooperation in me. Funny how the world is great so long all do what Jesus said to do until Jesus comes and says I did it, and then every thing is getting split by that sword.
That is one nice M1
While I don’t agree with their religion choice, I’ve got to admire folks that will bicycle in the Houston area summer heat to spread their view of God. My conversations with them have always been polite.
This was completely uneccessary. The response should be:
"You're just in time...come on in, it's gun-cleaning day. Can I get you a beer?"
They left.
Naw you can’t be shooting at JW’s...that’s totally bogus.
You bet, because it makes so much sense to shoot at someone after they ask if you'd like to convert to their religion, you say "No", they apologize for taking your time, and start driving away.
Do you feel the same way about Girl Scouts selling cookies door-to-door? They can be pretty persistent, after all.
The few times I've had such people at my door, I simply tell them I'm an atheist and not interested. Their reaction is invariably a polite one.
I certainly didn't feel the need to "defend" myself by shooting at them.
This guy is going to jail for his little tantrum. Not worth it however you feel about JWS.
The voice of reason is mostly missing on this thread, thanks for yours, wow. I just politely turn these people away, I’ve never had a problem. From the responses here one would think they’d wandered into some lefty religious hating blog.
idiot
if you don’t want to politely say you’re not interested, you can say the same thing, when you know’s it’s them, by just not answering the door - it works; the local JW folks DO get the “don’t bother THAT house” message after but a few attempts
I have always found them - JWers - less confrontational than the zealots who represented Campus Crusade for Christ on California beaches when I was growing up. Those were some folks who didn’t know the meaning of no.
The same is true in NYC subways today. The JWers will have a table set up somewhere, stand behind it and hold up a tract for you to see. Super evangelical Christians will walk along and confront you as you walk along and try to get you to stop and engage in conversation with them.
That’s a criminal waste of ammo. A water hose would probably work fine. ;-)
Wow! Centerton! That’s not fr from here!
I’ve had them come here. I invite them in, then surprise them by answering all their questions by SCRIPTURE (KJV).
I like it when it is hot outside and my AC is off. Every time they try to leave, I ask questions that make them nervous and keep them in the heat for about another 20 minutes.
When they escape, er, leave, they rarely come back!
Same for mormons.
They are annoying but they are not worth losing your 2A rights over.
Shooting someone for knocking on your door to talk about something you don't want to talk about - that's not self defense. That's evil.
***There are few enough professed Christians who know as much about their own religion.***
They are well versed in THEIR religion. About 40 years ago A Campbellite preacher visited a public school (remember those days?)and while talking to the class a young JW boy challenged him on a bible verse.
The preacher then reached into his brief case, pulled out THE GREEN PHANTOM (JW NWT bible) and the boy reached into his desk and did the same (NWT)!
They went to the verse in question, and found the two copies of the JW bible were different! The preacher has an older version, the boy had a newer version of the same.
So, it appears the verses of the NWT were changed as the doctrines changed.
