Boehner Advocated Privately for Hill Health Subsidies He Claims to Oppose (who's surprised??)
breitbart.com ^ | 10/2/13 | Dan Riehl

These are the words of Republican House Speaker John Boehner on Monday.

“Why don’t we make sure that every American is treated just like we are?” Boehner asked, seeking to prohibit members of Congress and Capitol Hill aides from getting thousands of dollars in subsidies for their health insurance as they join Obamacare-mandated insurance exchanges.

Yet, he privately negotiated with Democrat Harry Reid for months to find a way to quietly keep the subsidies in place for Hill staff as Obamacare rolled out.

Yet behind-the-scenes, Boehner and his aides worked for months with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), and others, to save these very same, long-standing subsidies, according to documents and e-mails provided to POLITICO. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was also aware of these discussions, the documents show.

Speaker Boehner's current rationalization is that he was advocating for a Democrat solution, not one driven by the House Republicans. That's not likely to play too well to a conservative base that already views Boehner as too compromising and perhaps untrustworthy. GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was reportedly in on the deal, as well.

Boehner aides insist there was never any intention to move legislation through the House to correct the problem. McConnell was also opposed to any legislation approach to the controversy, said spokesman Don Stewart.

Boehner and Reid, however, went so far as to ask to meet with President Barack Obama to lobby him personally for help — using a cover story in order to protect the secrecy of the discussions, according to these documents.

Take note that a couple posts down, Boehner now has a tea party challenger. Boehner should retire or be removed.

Another case of a politician with no core values. All that matters to people like him is personal political advantage.

Boehner is retiring anyway, so don’t waste your energy on not reelecting him.

Nobody is surprised by these negotiations. This is being posted and disseminated by the Dems because they think we’ll be shocked and not support Boehner now, during his one brief moment of conscience.

Support what he’s doing now - whatever he did in the past was bad and has brought us to this point, but you have to work with the army you have.

And unfortunately, if he caves again, he’s not running in any case so just look ahead.

I’ve heard conflicting info on this. Some say they negotiated to exempt themselves from Obamacare altogether. Others say it is granting tax payer subsidy of 75%, yet with all still participating in Obamacare. Which is it?

Almost 4 years of failure to defund Obamacare is proof enough that Boehner has been a failure as the Speaker of the House.

Boehner skated by during this battle ONLY because Reid wanted to shutdown the Government, and couldn’t care less about taking Boehner to the cleaners, as usual. Thank you, Senator Reid.

The next battle is what Reid is preparing for: Crushing all Republican opposition to a large increase in the Federal Budget.

Reid’s plan is to move quickly, (Obama is scandal ridden, and has but 3 years left if he is not Impeached), to enshrine Obamacare as a single payer, Federal Insurance system.

Then Federal Obamacare Insurance premiums can be raised by the IRS anytime the Democrats need to extract more money from the taxpayers.

Thus, Congress would not be involved in this tax money raising scheme.

As for the Republicans, Reid is unconcerned about them, as he has always been able to beat them EVERY TIME.

Well, every time that Boehner has been Speaker of the House.

After nearly 5 years on the job, Sobber of the House Boehner still hasn’t figured out that Reid and Obama are permanently emotionally stunted at the 2 to 4 year old, temper tantrum level.

Boehner must be the most stupid man in our sorry Federal Government.

Boehner was led kicking and screaming to not cave-in to Reid. That is to his credit, but just barely.

Boehner was waaaaaaaaaay to timid with 2 year old Reid, and damn near gave up on staying on offense by continually trying to cave in to 2 year old Reid.

Thankfully, Reid wanted this shutdown, convinced Obama to want it too, and avoided the temptation to take Boehner to the cleaners again. Thank you Senator Reid!

Boehner has no ideas left now so he must be replaced ASAP.

This First Reid Shutdown is a blessing in disgust.

Ignore the slings and arrows that the fans of Obamanation hurl at us.

They enjoy making noise and Federal messes, and they are good at it.

We Conservative Republicans have the responsibility of adult leadership to the 53 % of the voters who still pay their Federal Income Taxes. We have a lot of work to do!

The House needs to get rid of Boehner, replace him with a fighter, say Newt or Allen West (the House rules allow members to choose anyone, even non-members to be Speaker).

Then the new Speaker needs to appoint 3 Special Prosecuters : 1.) Benghazi; 2.) IRS; 3.) NSA.

This is a perfect time to clean up the mess that Obama, Reid and Pelosi have made, abolish Obamacare, and start to wean Americans off of the Federal Welfare teat.

Let the fans of Obamanation scream and holler, for that is what they have been doing for the last 5 years. Let them have their brand of hate-filled fun. We have work to do.

It is time for the Republican adults to lead the juvenile RINOs to clean up the dung heap that is truly an Obamanation.

Sometimes one has to work with the crew that one is saddled with.

Damn the Democrats! Full speed ahead!

Jeff Kuhner of the Washinton Times said on his radio show that they will get the subsidy but they also retain their previous non-Obamacare insurance that they've always had. So, it won't be necessary for them to even sign up on the exchanges.

If true, this wouldn't surprise me. The insurance they've always had most likely has dental care and other perks that Obamacare does not.

If anyone can add any clarity to this, please do. Thanks.

I don't think that Boehner said he was retiring from Congress, just stepping down from the Speakership.
