Day 2 of the government shutdown, and look out the window. The sun is still shining, and the sky is still blue. The birds are chirping.
The Great Government Shutdown is not that big a deal, even for the government. The federal civilian workforce includes 2.9 million bureaucrats. Out of that, only 800,000 are being furloughed, or just 27%. Even for these workers, the shutdown just amounts to a paid vacation for a few days.
Just like the overballyhood sequester, average Americans won’t notice any change in their lives at all. But for those you who are offended and indignant by the shutdown, or who know somebody who is, I can tell you how to fix it.
The Real Reason for the Shutdown The government is shut down for only one reason. Barack Obama and the Democrats wanted a shutdown. That is because Obama and the Democrats are so certain that the public will blame the Republicans. And they are certain of that because your dopey neighbors keep telling pollsters that the Republicans are at fault.

FR. You’re a grown-up, look it up yourself. You are the one who asserted with no proof the drones won’t get paid. You are well-known for your laziness, now shake your reputation.
So, you could live without it if it isn't essential, right?
Will let you all know if I somehow get a magical check after all this. But since they sent unemployment information I can’t imagine getting away with both. Not talking about low life higher ups but us schlubs.
Whatever the number is, I want to see it added to the real jobless % and reported as the fault of a crap sandwich piece of unconstitutional legislation, and an arrogant, unchecked dictatorship for an executive branch.
Sure. Live without it. But don’t hang numbers over Dems head next election. Like underemployment, poverty rate,etc...

I understand that, the pay will be deferred, unlike those in the private sector.
I don’t believe all government workers are lazy and have cushy jobs with big fat paychecks.
I also don’t believe government workers are better or more entitled than private sector workers.
When money issues happen with our employers, the employees suffer. It is awful and you have my sympathy there.
In 2009 and 2010 we had to live through this. It was hard but there was never any back pay to make up for the time lost after vacation time had been exhausted. Big hole never to be filled.
I think the reason the paid vacation comments are happening is because there is no back pay for the private sector like there is for government.

I am telling you as an hourly paid employee, there is no back pay for most. Hell, I wish there was! There will be for some but not all.
But for that matter not all (or many even) employees have to meet production rates that I do.
I did not know that. If hourly workers won’t receive back pay then I can understand your anger at the paid vacation comments.
It’s gut churning and nerve wracking trying to live with the gaps in pay.

I’m essential personnel, but I’m not excepted. I’m furloughed and those retained are far less efficient, have cost the government hundreds of thousands to millions in their “poor decisions” which just so happen to benefit their fellow masonic brethren.
They’ve known details of trends as telegraphed in their behavior and they manifest guilty consciences in their thinking, attempting to mold excuses rather than solve problems.
There’s enough work to keep every professional busy 24/7, but these same groups will work to destroy all those not in their group, while they advance the least capable in the arts of subterfuge. Those are the guys running the show.
That doesn’t mean everybody is like that, nor do they all know what one another are plotting, but they definitely oppose anybody who simply exercises faith in Christ, even without discussing it.
IMHO, while I believe the tea party position is proper, I think they are being played by those who are much more picayune. Too often, Christian believers read their thinking into their perceptions of their adversaries, thinking they will think as believers, just with some vice in their life. Unbelievers who advance in a worldly fashion, degenerate into far more antiChristian thinking than most believers will ever consider.
I perceive this furlough is different from those in the past, and by the time people clue in as to what’s going down, its going to be too late.
Remember, the sequester now hits another year. This Administration still refuses to cut costs from the bottom up, by proper managerial decision making. They broad brush demand large percent cuts across the board, refuse to manage with proper accounting, and then add additional wasteful regulations and their pet positions throughout the system promoting centralized command and control independent of the chain of command. They fundamentally lack fiduciary accountability.
This entire episode is going to be played for another 3 years and for every continuing resolution. We may have to lose something dramatically to recognize the threat facing us.
There is no guarantee with each shutdown. There is already talk among my co workers who have been through this before so many times that this time is different. It is likely there will be no back pay. I didn’t listen much to the murmuring because I don’t need the anxiety and there is little I can do.
We are also cautioned to NOT leave town because conditions could change and we could be required to report back with half days notice. So much for the paid vacation lie. Just because it happened before doesn’t mean it will happen again.
As for the “non essential” myth, those determinations are based on the short term needs (14 day) of each division of each agency. That does not mean that should a permanent downsize be required, the gov work force could run perfectly with 800,000 less employees. The workforce has grown in response to legislation. Therein lies the problem. Layers of bloated power mongering. Both sides are to blame.
Having said that, I’ll be fine. As I have said before I have savings, I have worked my tail off to get my 13 and support my family, and I don’t believe I should suffer any less than anyone else in this economy. I’m just happy that this turd of a program is rolling out and the world can see what an evil piece of $h1t it is.
Excellent post. I worked 90% of my life in private sector but also like my kuds not being homeless. Also, there have been federal employees before Obama.
What furloughed federal govt. employees are experiencing is that private workers like myself all suffered through the recession of 2008-2009. Some are still trying to climb out of a hole. Many of us, including myself, took a 50% CUT in pay during that time period. However, we were glad WE STILL HAD A JOB. Many lost theirs.
During that same period the federal govt. increased their amount of employees and most never took a pay cut. In fact they received their cost of living increase every year. My brother works for the justice department. There was one year they talked about no pay increase and he whined about that.
All that being said, there is not a lot of sympathy in the private sector for government employees. We know there are essential jobs. However, we also know there many jobs that could be eliminated altogether.
So, welcome to the party. Suck it up.
LoL, suck it up? Relax, cowboy, and read my post again. I made it clear I’m fine with this, I’ll be ok, and people are making way too much of this. To me, I’m more focused on enjoying watching the marketplace implode. That’s a sight to behold.

I apologize. My post was more of a general comment toward all govt. employees and the feeling people in the private sector have towards them. I did not mean you in particular.
Just like my brothers job in the Justice Department Bureau of Prisons is a necessary position, there are many federal govt. jobs that are required.
However, my other brother worked for the Veterans Administration for two years straight out of college. He was told to get out or no one in the private sector, especially in the DC area, would hire you IF you worked for the Feds for more than two years. The reputation is that govt. employees are not motivated.
