A mortar shell hit the Chinese embassy in Syria's capital Damascus on Monday, damaging the building and wounding one person, Chinese state media reported.
Insurgents fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad have launched mortar and rocket attacks on the city center in recent months, including in the upscale al-Maliki neighborhood where the Chinese mission is located.

China is the red line and I would suspect that this was not a real good idea.
China has a very long history of dealing with Muslims - Mongols, to be more specific.
Given a chance, they would happily “deprive of existence” all Muslims in China.
Hmmn - will the Chinese see this mortar attack as teh start of a modern day Spanish Civil War? One can hope.

I seem to recall our guys “accidentally” taking out something of theirs in Iraq or Afghanistan. Don’t recall the retaliation though there should have been, given that most nations consider it international incident material.

The same thing happened to Russia’s embassy in Syria as well.
