The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was accosted by several people on Van Buren Street around 1:30 a.m. this morning, said Thomas Fennelly, the county’s chief assistant prosecutor. The ICE agent was struck with fists and hands by multiple people, he added.
The victim drew and discharged his weapon, striking two of the suspects, Fennelly said.
Those two suspects were taken to University Hospital, where they’re in stable condition – and under arrest, the prosecutor added.

When officers are not acting as agents of the government, they are just armed citizens.

George Orwell understood the path when he wrote that “some animals are more equal than others”.
And so do those who shoot a LE officer. But if they shoot a regular citizen, they might be out in a few years. The special treatment of LE has been around for a looooong time.
Not clear that the victim was a polar bear.
BTW the Ironbound section is supposed to be the safest place to be in that city. Not saying much, I suppose.
Yes, just armed citizens ... in New Jersey. Very unlike the average disarmed citizen.
