The death panels aren’t going to come through the front door. They’re going to sneak up on you from behind with piano wire.
On July 29, 2013, a working group for the National Cancer Institute (the main government agency for cancer research) published a paper proposing that the term cancer be reserved for lesions with a reasonable likelihood of killing the patient if left untreated. Slower growing tumors would be called a different name such as indolent lesions of epithelial origin (IDLE).
Their justification was that modern medical technology now allows doctors to detect small, slow-growing tumors that likely wouldnt be fatal. Yet once patients are told they have a cancer, many become frightened and seek unnecessary further tests, chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery.
By redefining the term cancer, the National Cancer Institute hopes to reduce patient anxiety and reduce the risks and expenses associated with supposedly unnecessary medical procedures. In technical terms, the government hopes to reduce overdiagnosis and overtreatment of cancer.
And of course compel doctors to stop recommending expensive “overtreatments” for things that are no longer cancers.
Similarly, the American Medical Association recently voted to declare obesity a disease. But as Cato Institute health care analyst Michael Tanner noted, the AMAs move is actually a way for its members to receive more federal dollars, by getting obesity treatments covered under government health plans.
In our Obamacare world, obesity is a serious disease, but cancer isn’t.
With respect to the definition of cancer, downgrading some conditions as no longer being cancer can and will used to justify reducing unnecessary screening tests (e.g., mammograms for women between ages 40-49).
That’s the whole point. The more the government takes over medicine, the more it is driven to reduce costs in order to fund a vast welfare state.
Dr. Milton Wolf, a practicing radiologist who cares for patients with DCIS warns against this Orwellian possibility:
“Health care rationing takes many insidious forms but perhaps the most immoral is for the government to wage a public relations campaign designed specifically to dissuade patients and doctors from seeking available cures for cancer. They scheme to rename cancer, not to cure it, but to deny it exists. These government rationers have calculated that rather than actually treat patients with cancer, its cheaper to simply keep them calm… right up to the very end.”
Aren’t we glad that crazy Sarah Palin lady with her death panel rants didn’t get elected. And instead we live with a wise and sane government that fights new wars while renaming them as interventions and cures cancer by renaming it and denying coverage?
Hope. Change. Death.
Well it suck worse on a smart phone. My thumb is exhausted.
” - - - And get some outfit to manufacture little pins in the shape of a broom. Wish I could make them myself - I could use the money ;o) - - - “
I like the way you think !
Lemme see now, maybe tweek the symbol a little bit, say, morphing a broom in to a pitchfork?
Bronze level pins has the broom symbol and Gold has the symbol of a pitchfork?
Bronze has the text “CLEAN SWEEP 2014” , and Gold has the Text “ Rid the Senate of Reid.”
Since you are the old exec., just “pick up the ball and run with it!”
“There’s only about 40% chance the Prostate Cancer will kill you. So worry about your heart health.”
Yeah. That’s the ticket.
(4 / 10 dead as a result)
>>Getting very tiresome.<<
What is getting very tiresome? The fact someone is posting lists of Senators with contact info and voting data?
You are very welcome!
My thick graewoulf hide took the jabs well, but I figured it would be worth it that more FReepers would be able to call more Senators IF they did not have to Google each Senators homepage to get the phone numbers.
To those who were annoyed with me, I understand, but I would gladly do it again if I have the chance to influence those who can crease, fold, spindle, defund or ABOLISH Marxist-based Obamacare Medical Insurance.
Marxism is the enemy of the GOOD, no matter who the speaker of Marxism is.
Wonderful. But. hey, the self-important people don’t get to sign up so its all good Nothing to be afraid of.
Anybody who lets Obama get away with this pretty much deserves to die anyway. Anyone who let’s Obama kill an innocent is also guilty of murder.
Why? You got a problem with people reading facts?
What is your problem? You two wouldn't be trolls, would you?

0h-bama Inc. to Deny Cancer Treatments by Redefining What Cancer Is
Sarah was right.
Article and # 2.
This shouldn’t be a political or even policy issue. This should be a science issue. There has been a discussion going for more than a decade now about cancer survival rates. There are some pretty smart people that believe survival rates have not changed much, we’ve just added a lot of people that had something that probably wasn’t cancer in the traditional sense to the numbers which skew them in a way that makes it look like more people with cancer are surviving.
Being treated for cancer varies from bad to fatal, knowing who needs to be treated for cancer and who should be left alone is a very important area of research regardless of who is in office or setting health care policy.
If you are curious, look at the Preventative Medicine Task Force recommendations, there are a number of tests that are not recommended because they actually pose a greater risk than benefit.
I’ll give you one example, if you are in your 80’s, do not let your doctor screen you for prostate cancer. The reason being is that you most likely do have it but it will not be your cause of death unless somebody decides to treat you for it.
“Gay cancer” = Kaposi’s Sarcoma.
Benign cancer is an obvious oxymoron.
The [long string of unladylike words] are trying to pervert the language AGAIN to suit their purposes, and they have
dumbed down three generations of low-information voters who parrot whatever the mainly slimy media call something.
“Benign cancer” would make perfect sense to such individuals.
A spade, gentlemen, is no longer a spade.
Thanks SeekAndFind.

right up to the very end.
My gastroenterologist calls my colon polyps “pre-cancer” growths, meaning that they could become cancerous unless removed.
I’ve had two such colonoscopies with polyp removals and will probably have another one this December.
The last time the doctor took out 2-3 polyps but the younger man next to me got lucky, and I mean lucky.
Apparently he was in for his first ‘scope’ and it revealed a polyp that looked like a mushroom that was ready to explode.
The doctor told him that if he had not come in when he did, the chances were great that he would develop cancer from the burst polyp because they would have entered his bloodstream and eventually kill him.
Sometimes early testing can detect and prevent later more expensive treatments and possibly deaths.
The whole Obama medical program, a lot of it being either based on or written by one of his friends (and Commmunist Party USA member, now in the Democratic Socialists of America, a larger marxist group), is intended to take control of the life of almost every American citizen.
The program, as a whole, is “THE DEATH PANEL”, not just a few people making treatment decisions.
Obama never did care about the American people, only his ego, his hidden marxist ideology, and his unquenchable thirst for absolute power.
In the overall scheme of modern history, when referring to those who exercised absolute power, you will find Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Il Sung, Idi Amin, Popa Doc Duvalier, and as a work-in-progress, Barack Hussein Obama.
I agree with you overall, and prostate cancer is a perfect example.
Cutting edge scientific discovery is expensive, and anything expensive is going to be political. Whether we like it or not, the two are mixed.
Anytime I see research that makes it into the media, I will automatically look to see who’s funded it. I’m just old and cynical like that.
And everybody thought they were kidding when they said the population should be reduced by some 85%. Anything less is not Sustainable ya know.
