The list of things on which Barack Obama has been wrong goes on to the crack of doom. But there's one thing on which the President is surely right. In calculating his strategy for dealing with the shutdown, the prez can count on the MSM to blame Republicans.
Mark Halperin bared the president's calculus on today's Morning Joe, saying the Obama admin has little incentive to negotiate because it believes a "sympathetic" press will blame Republicans, accusing them of being "obstructionist."

I don’t think that was exactly relevant to the discussion of campaign strategies actually - and in 95, with power for the first time in 40 years - they succombed to some powerful and unpredictable forces, altho they did do some great things that helped our economy for half a generation. I think “stabbed in back” is less than accurate here, though they did not follow thru on everything.

I agree. Granted, the media will shill for the Democrats, this is a given, but the leftist hopes depend on the people buying into what the media will attempt to sell, another consideration entirely.
As to the issue of healthcare, there are fewer and fewer people who could be considered "low information", as all those who have not been affected, at least know someone who has been affected. The water-cooler talk about Obamacare is not favorable, so this time it could be different.

A Monday thought: we are overly concerned about ‘low info’ voters swallowing the lies of the Obamanites (”Obama has cut the deficit in half.” Babs Boxer) in the MSM.
Most low information voters don’t follow ‘politics.’ Most aren’t even aware of what’s going on re Obamacare and the debt ceiling. Democrats lie because it’s in their nature. Low info voters are about as susceptible to being ‘swayed’ as Irish setters. Do you think they call and e-mail?
All that really matters are the votes.

Without the MSM hiding this, today Obama would be waking up round 10:00 am, going to hang with his crook friends at the social club then after lunch go badger some company into hiring more black folk to work on an over budget, over due project that the union is stealing funds from.

Not ironically, unless Obama is spectacularly successful in blaming the Republicans, which is highly unlikely, the situation is a win for the conservative Republicans.
This is because it is a *primary* goal of conservative Republicans to *slash* government spending. And what is a government shutdown? It is *not* spending money!
Critically, officially only 17% of the US federal budget is discretionary spending. So the *worst* thing that conservatives might see is a 17% reduction in the spending of the federal government.
However, because of the Treasury and FED’s *deficit* spending, the reality is that the government shutdown might affect perhaps only 5% of government spending. Likely even with the shutdown, the federal government will still be spending more than its budget.
So, tell me again how America will be crippled if the US government spends just 5% less?
While spending less money, ever, is a Keynesian nightmare, as far as sensible economics goes, it is a great idea. “If you are spending too much, spend *less*”, makes sense to everyone but a Keynesian.
From the point of view of a conservative Republican, this government shutdown is what the future government should look like, when conservative Republicans are in charge.
And it should be only the beginning, because there is a vast mountain of fat that needs to be cut from the federal budget.
The problem with this strategy is that the Dems are in control. I don’t think the average person will blame the Republicans when it comes to dumping Obamacare vs getting their welfare checks and their obamaphones.
What difference does it make to them whether the hospital gives them free healthcare or the democrats do...either way they will get free healthcare...going from completely free now to subsidized means they will have to pay more under Obamacare than they do now.
I suspect Dems would very quickly start pressuring their reps to drop Obamacare once they started missing checks / services.
they have their orders. manufacture “positive” stories about Obamacare from now until November 5th, 2014.
