Preparing for shutdown, government plans furloughs
Associated Press ^ | Sep 27, 2013 5:27 PM EDT | Sam Hananel

More than a third of federal workers would be told to stay home if the government shuts down, forcing the closure of national parks from California to Maine and all the Smithsonian museums. Low-to-moderate income borrowers and first-time homebuyers seeking government-backed mortgages could face delays.

These would be just some of the effects of a government shutdown that could furlough as many as 800,000 of the nation’s 2.1 million federal workers. It could hit as early as Tuesday if a bitterly divided Congress fails to approve a temporary spending bill to keep the government running. …

It might be a good thing for the USA to have people realize and or suffer to see how much of their lives have been given or taken over by government.

Do you thing very many of those who's lives HAVE been given/taken over would actually make the connection? I think many would not.

Remember when Obama told us that the world would end if we went through with the sequester????

Remember him squealing like a stuck pig?
Remember him advising his departments to make it hurt the public as much as possible?
Remember the how he shut down the white house tours and then went on vacation and spent a hundred million dollars at 5-star hotels for him and his entourage?
As it turns out the one trillion dollars we will save from a shutdown of non essential services is exactly the amount we are over spending.

I got skin in this game. I am one of the Fed contractors who will be let go for however long this thing goes on.

I say, DO IT. Xcrew it. I'm in. I'd rather see OTraumaCare go down then keep this job. I can get a new job.

Government furlough days are just vacation days. Govt. Hog employees can apply for and get unemployment benefits while they are not at work.
The govt. and it’s employees will leach off the tax payers regardless.

Government furlough days are just vacation days.

Perhaps for actual Feds, but not for contractors -- which makes up the vast majority of workers.

Also depends on the KT. I’ve been working solid 15hrs everyday this week without a break to make sure the KTRs can work during the furlough.

LOL.

Well, he could carry them in his purse and look upon them for inspiration once in awhile.

Or, it could backfire, if, upon observing them, he started crying .”gee, I wish I had balls”.

Three-quarters of Americans think teachers paid less than they really are
Washington Examiner ^ | 9-16-13 | ASHE SCHOW
"Seventy-four percent of Americans think teachers make less than they really do, according to a new poll from Rasmussen. The average teacher salary in America is $55,000 (upward of $75,000 in Chicago), but three quarters of Americans think teachers earn less than that. Over half of Americans (52 percent) believe teachers are paid too little."

Obama signs emergency bill to halt teacher layoffs

"The aid for the states is to be paid for mostly by closing a tax loophole used by multinational corporations and by reducing food stamp benefits for the poor...The legislation provides $10 billion to school districts to rehire laid-off teachers or to ensure that more teachers won't be let go before the new school year begins."

Mutually Assured Destruction [Tues. debacle confirms growing rift between Dems & teachers unions.]
American Spectator ^ | 11/5/10 | RiShawn Biddle
"Congressional Democrats angered centrist school reformers, MoveOn.org-style progressives, and other party activists in August when they voted to ladle $10 billion in federal subsidies (funded from future cuts to the Food Stamp program) to school districts in order to stave off layoffs of 160,000 teachers (or just 2.6 percent of the nation's 6.2 million school employees). In turn, the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers poured more than $40 million of their hefty campaign war chests (including more than $15 million by the NEA in the last weeks of the election season alone) to help the Democrats keep full control of Congress."

800,000 gov’t workers?

I assume these are the “nonessential” workers?

So why do we need them?

sounds about the number of new govt workers he's piled on since 2009 - one of his ‘redistribution’ programs.
