(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Ted Cruz (R.-Texas) said today on a conference call the even if the Senate passes a continuing resolution that permits funding of Obamacare the fight to defund it is not over--because Obamacare cannot be funded unless the Republican-controlled House of Representatives agrees to do it.
House Republicans can, and I believe should, continue to stand their ground, said Cruz. And, so, if the House holds firm, Harry Reid has no ability to muscle the House of Representativesif they stand their ground.
Cruz said that the cloture vote the Senate will hold Friday on the House-passed version of the CR is the most important vote that senators will cast this year. In his view, that is because if at least 41 of 46 Republicans do not vote against clotureand thus prevent the bill from coming to a final vote in the SenateHarry Reid, at this point in time, will be able to get simple majority vote of at least 51 Democrats to attach an amendment to the CR stripping the language defunding Obamacare.
Nonetheless, Cruz said, if that happens the fight is not over because the bill must then go back to the House, and Obamacare cannot be funded unless the Republican-controlled House agrees to it.
Number one, if enough Senate Republicans on tomorrows cloture vote decide to vote with Harry Reid and grant cloture to give Harry Reid the authority to fund Obamcare, that does not mean the fight is over, said Cruz. It means Harry Reid will pass out of the Senate a continuing resolution that funds Obamacare, but it still goes back to the House.
And even if Senate Republicans have not shown the same strength of will that House Republicans have shown, that doesnt mean the fight is over because House Republicans can, and I believe should, continue to stand their ground, said Cruz.
So, if the House holds firm, Harry Reid has no ability to muscle the House of Representativesif they stand their ground, Cruz said.
I have said before I think the most important role that I can play that [Sen.] Mike Lee [R.-Utah] can play, that others can play, is to serve as a cheerleader encouraging and supporting the House Republicans to stand with the American people, said Cruz. Because the continuing resolution that the House passed reflects the strong will of the American people who understand that Obamcare is not working.
Put me on the Ted Cruz ping list please!
I agree, and I think Cruz did the right think. What I am saying is that at the moment, I do not know that the rest of the House GOP has gotten the message yet.
Which means that while Cruz is doing what he needs to do and we should all be celebrating what he is doing, it may be that we need to elect waves of new genuine conservatives in 2014 if we want a House GOP that gets it like Cruz gets it.
That is what I am saying here.
Call one of his offices in PA.
I repeat, I am NOT advocating surrender of any kind. I am merely saying that at the moment, it does not seem like we have a House GOP that is on the same page as us on this - and we will for sure need to keep this in mind next year’s elections so that we can make damn sure that Cruz is not standing along every time he does the principled and right thing.
Once again Senator Cruz is spot on!!!!!!!!
All numbers are busy......and e-mails full...
I’m beginning to think he’s simply not taking calls.
> So the question of the day is: “Will Boehner grow a pair?”
I’d wager the odds are better I’ll be Queen of England by this time next year.
This is what's happening within the party now...
I’ll take that wager. No way you’ll be the Queen of England next year...so we still have a chance with Boehner.
(that’s not you is it Kate?)
Done!
It's not about the futility of an eventual Obama veto.
They are against blocking cloture because they don't want to put the pressure on their Democrat friends in Red States to vote against their party.
McConnell, McCain, and Cornyn are in it to protect the Democrats from difficult votes.

That wouldn’t surprise me in the least. It’ll be a joyous day when each of those RINO’s are gone.
Wow, can we hire you to write our letters? You said what my heart feels, but I lack the ability to put it in words!!
GREAT LETTER!
IF.
I say fight the good fight. Push hard to defund. But recognize that our allies in the House have spines of jelly. They don’t have the intestinal fortitude to walk away from the table and tell the Senate and dear leader to go eff themselves.
Mcconnelcare is a nation killer. It’s just that simple. If delay is what we ultimately get, then it’s a reprieve. More time to make the case that it’s a complete disaster. Delay it again. Delay it till hell freezes over.
“The GOP cave will start in 10, 9, 8..”
Lord knows I detest the gop wing of the uniparty. Check my posting history if you doubt that. But you have to give people the opportunity to do the right thing even if you’re highly doubtful of them doing so.
DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank God for that. Thanks for the fact of the matter, and may it continue to be so.
Senator Cruz will be destroyed, just like Sarah Palin was. He is too big a threat to the Dems and he makes the Repubs look bad.
If only we had more like him!!
Yes, we need many more like him.
I believe he is fully aware of what is coming and is going to be coming at him. So far he doesn’t seem to be backing off and the GOP-e haven’t fazed him in the least.
McQueeg hates him so much he made a fool out of himself yesterday bashing him on the Senate floor playing surrender monkey for the RATS. The rest of the elitist R’s are scared to death of him and probably for good reason, they know now he won’t be backing down.
God bless Sen. Cruz, looks like the rebellion has started.
When Orin Hatch declares that Ted Kennedy is his very best friend, what more do you really need to know?
