(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Ted Cruz (R.-Texas) said today on a conference call the even if the Senate passes a continuing resolution that permits funding of Obamacare the fight to defund it is not over--because Obamacare cannot be funded unless the Republican-controlled House of Representatives agrees to do it.
House Republicans can, and I believe should, continue to stand their ground, said Cruz. And, so, if the House holds firm, Harry Reid has no ability to muscle the House of Representativesif they stand their ground.
Cruz said that the cloture vote the Senate will hold Friday on the House-passed version of the CR is the most important vote that senators will cast this year. In his view, that is because if at least 41 of 46 Republicans do not vote against clotureand thus prevent the bill from coming to a final vote in the SenateHarry Reid, at this point in time, will be able to get simple majority vote of at least 51 Democrats to attach an amendment to the CR stripping the language defunding Obamacare.
Nonetheless, Cruz said, if that happens the fight is not over because the bill must then go back to the House, and Obamacare cannot be funded unless the Republican-controlled House agrees to it.
Number one, if enough Senate Republicans on tomorrows cloture vote decide to vote with Harry Reid and grant cloture to give Harry Reid the authority to fund Obamcare, that does not mean the fight is over, said Cruz. It means Harry Reid will pass out of the Senate a continuing resolution that funds Obamacare, but it still goes back to the House.
And even if Senate Republicans have not shown the same strength of will that House Republicans have shown, that doesnt mean the fight is over because House Republicans can, and I believe should, continue to stand their ground, said Cruz.
So, if the House holds firm, Harry Reid has no ability to muscle the House of Representativesif they stand their ground, Cruz said.
I have said before I think the most important role that I can play that [Sen.] Mike Lee [R.-Utah] can play, that others can play, is to serve as a cheerleader encouraging and supporting the House Republicans to stand with the American people, said Cruz. Because the continuing resolution that the House passed reflects the strong will of the American people who understand that Obamcare is not working.
So the question of the day is: "Will Boehner grow a pair?"
When you’re dealing with crazy people they want their way regardless of the damage they’ll do to get it. They simply don’t care what the collateral damage is. Conscionable people however, do care. That’s why we do negotiate with terrorists. And, yes, a politician who is willing to damage the military and reduce its effectiveness for a decade into the future to achieve his socialist aims is a terrorist. The fact that he’s a US senator notwithstanding.
You campaigned as a Tea Party Republican and promised to reign in the government in Washington. I voted for you precisely because you were going to fight to reduce the size of government and its control over our lives.
In the past year, you have proposed additions to the already onerous federal gun laws, and have supported the dumping of millions of illegal aliens onto the backs of us taxpayers.
Now, when a vehicle for if not stopping, then at least slowing down Obamacare is available, you are not fully on board. Let me make this as clear as I can. A vote for cloture is a vote FOR Obamacare. It doesnt matter how you vote on the bill itself. In the Senate, there is a method for the minority party to have a say in the outcome of legislation, and its time for the Republicans, and yourself in particular, to start fighting by using the means at your disposal.
In addition to this fight, I expect you to fight to NOT increase the debt limit. ANY vote to increase the debt limit, including a cloture vote, is a vote FOR increasing the debt, something you pledged to fight during your campaign.
The press says that you are afraid of Rush Limbaugh and the Tea Party. Well, you should be, since they speak for the vast majority of your voters. Washington is not a microcosm of America. Listen to your constituents, not the escargot eating surrender monkeys who occupy the media appointed posts of the Republican leadership.
For the past few election cycles, the Republicans have been losing simply because they want to appear like Democrats. If it is true that a Republican cannot win by running on the principles and ideals that founded this country, then it is already too late, and America is dead. I don't believe that America is dead, and the election of 2010 is proof.
Its time for you to choose. Are you going to represent patriotic Americans who believe in the founding principles, or are you just looking to get a good seat on the Politburo and bide your time until you can retire on a juicy taxpayer funded pension?
Ted Cruz Ping!
If you want on/off this ping list, please let me know!
Please beware, it is a high-volume ping list!
BTTT!!
Your letter/email to Senator Toomey is excellent.
I hope and pray it matters to him.
It should.
God bless and keep you.
The GOP cave will start in 10, 9, 8...
nope.
Blunt from Missouri is going to vote for cloture. I called and voiced my opinion. Grrrrr.
This reads like one of those “vile” e-mails the rep King was receiving. Nice job!
There are already signs that Boehner wants to move on from this and fight another (losing) battle on the debt-limit field. Trade a repeal of the medical device tax for raising the debt limit, something like that.
Things are moving very rapidly now due to the Sept. 30th deadline. I’m guessing Boehner caves and Obamacare stays on track.
Ted Cruz knows the rules. The rules are thick, cobwebby and arcane. Some of these may be left over parliamentary procedures from British influence. So even today, having a full moral belief in what you’re trying to do is not enough. One needs to be well acquainted with the rules, so you don’t do waste time on unwinnable causes brought to the floor in an incorrect manner. Maybe some of the ‘cobwebs’ are needed to reduce frivolous legislation, reduce, not eliminate.
God Forbid, It’s time to take a collection to buy balls for republicans.
If they can’t grow them, maybe we can pay for implants. I doubt that would be provided to them under obamacare.
bobo
That’s expected, yet highly disappointing and equally outrageous. He’s part of the GOP-E.
Thanks so much for calling.
God bless and keep you.
Beautiful! Way to go!!!
I’m in PA as well but have been unable to get thru to Toomey....he’s definately doing exactly as Cruz said they would do “pretending” to be against Obamacare.
He put out a written response yesterday on His site...sidestepping the answer if or not he’d be voting for cloture or not....alot of double talk.
I will continue to try to reach him...so far not getting thru any avenue I’ve tried.
BTTT
Senator Cruz ROCKS!
Here is one aspect that the Ted Cruz filibuster has accomplished:
It has established Ted Cruz as the spokesman for the Republican party on Obamacare. It has taken that role away from McCain/McConnell/Boehner.
The MSM cannot possibly provide a credible news story without including Ted Cruz’s opinion.
