People are often surprised to learn that members of the Bush family support gay marriage, though Laura Bush, her daughter Barbara Bush, and Dick Cheney have declared they believe in marriage equality. (It probably has something to do with George W. Bush's support for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.) Apparently W.'s parents are okay with gay marriage too, since they not only attended a lesbian couple's wedding on Saturday, but served as witnesses as well.
Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen have been together for 12 years and are co-owners of a general store in Kennebunk, Maine. They have been friends with the former First Couple, who own a compound in neighboring Kennebunkport, for years. In an e-mail to the Washington Post, Clement said they asked George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush to be witnesses after thinking about "how blessed we are to be in their lives." She added, "Who would be best to help us acknowledge the importance of our wedding as our friends and as the former leader of the free world. When they agreed to do so we just felt that it was the next acknowledgment of being 'real and normal.' "
Since leaving office, George W. Bush has made some vaguley tolerant comments about gay marriage, but he's refused to comment on the issue directly and had nothing to say about his parents' participation in the wedding. H.W.'s office didn't make any sweeping declarations about marriage equality either, saying only, "They were private citizens attending a private ceremony for two friends."
I won’t vote for a liberal of either party
Dear former President Bush,
If you want to see a couple of Girls kissing, have one of your Secret Service guys show you how to surf the Internet.
Sincerely,
K.C.
Funny, I’ll bet neither of those “girls” ever Voted for a Republican, friends or not.
They originally wanted him to pick Gerald Ford and Reagan said no. He should have said no to Bush.
Look it up. They wanted him to pick Gerald Ford, and he met with Gerald Ford. He should have said, “no,” to Bush.
Since Bush is a former president, will he be able to preside over the wedding when his son marries Putin? I feel sorry for Laura, but Putin is Bush’s true love.
This makes me sick.
Now a so-called Christian ex-President celebrates perversion.
God’s Kingdom will continue, but probably in Asia is where He will rise the next generation of leaders who will preach His word.
America? We’re rapidly—RAPIDLY—deteriorating into Jerusalem circa 586 B.C. The society is confident it is secure, but it is crumbling within and dangers are lurking just outside. And our “leaders” are engaging in bread and circus antics like rejoicing over homosexuality and the “choice” to sacrifice babies on the altar of Convenience.
Did HW ever claim to be a Christians? I know W did, but I thought was something he allegedly got in later life.
Good grief; the Bushes have likely been and have officially joined the Rino-wing of the Republican Party.
So, that leaves, Lee, Cruz and Rand Paul...
Welcome to Amerika...we are indeed being ruled against the will of the people, which is tyranee...
No, no tin foil on my head, but NSA is searching for certain words, hence the purposeful misspelling.
apparently a die-hard preppy
There’s probably more to it than that as NO veep stuck around a full term let alone 2 terms in modern times. GHWB was the establishment’s man in the White House.
