He was supposed to be one of the good guys: A white doctor in Harlem. Professor at Columbia. A national leader against white racism. Frequent guest on the Huffington Post, New York Times and other liberal outlets. Active in U.N. public health initiatives for poor people.
He even lives in Harlem. So when Dr. Prabhjot Singh decided he would stroll through his neighborhood Saturday night, he figured he was safe.
After all, he said to Huffington Post about his Harlem neighbors: “It’s one thing to be told in the news or in a book that a community is not as dangerous as you thought they were. But it’s completely another thing to know somebody personally. Understanding really comes from deeper engagement.”
And no one was more deeply engaged that Dr. Singh.
Then four blocks from Malcolm X Boulevard, Dr. Singh met up with 20 black people on bikes. According to the NBC affiliate in New York:

My thought as well. These 'yutes' were quite lucky that the good doctor wasn't sporting a hellacious blade as many Sikhs do.

People who are comfortable with a Malcolm X Boulevard in their community are people I don’t want to know. Is there a Baby Doc street in Harlem, too?
How about a Mobuto Sese Seko (Nkuku Ngbendu wa Za Banga) Avenue? Translation: “The all-powerful warrior who, because of his endurance and inflexible will to win, will go from conquest to conquest leaving fire in his wake”.
Sikhs are intelligent, hard-working and law-abiding. The exact opposite of the street thugs that attacked this man.
I can’t wrap my head around the idea of a “liberal sikh.” It doesn’t make any sense! After all, they are a militant, fundamentalist religion who worship a book.
Shery’s daughter answering.....we have LOTS of sikhs where I’m from. And most of them are not what we would call “white”. There are a few pale ones, but their skin is still darker than most whites. And many of them are VERY dark skinned.

Perhaps you're confusing Sikhs with the same group the "Get Osama" crowd confused this man with, or is your sarcasm closing tag missing...?
Certainly true, but any non-convert Sikh (i.e. true Indian sub-continent descent) is genetically closer to "white" Europeans than any other recognized "race" (Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Negroid, Australoid, with a very few potential candidate tribes from the Pacific Islands) to use old scientific, but politically incorrect today, classifications.
The general rule of thumb is to avoid any city street named after Martin Luther King, especially if it's after dark and you're unarmed. I would assume that this applies tenfold for any street named after Malcolm X.
What's next, Robert Mugabe Drive?

Even though the skins of Indians is dark, they are both linguistically and genetically closer to Europeans than they are to Asians or Africans. After all, English and most other European languages are "Indo-European".
Look at the facial features of most Indians, especially those from northern India. Take away the dark complexion, and they could easily pass as a European. If you give a black or an east Asian a white complexion, he won't look European. He'll just look like an albino.
