A pregnant woman who was a recent Harvard School of Public Health graduate was among more than 60 people murdered by Islamic terrorists in an upscale Kenyan mall, along with the father of her unborn child.
HSPH faculty members recalled yesterday Elif Yavuz, 33, as an expert on malaria, and as a remarkable student who had a flair for colorful fashion and a great sense of humor. We are all in shock. She was such a wonderful person, Thomas Bossert, director of the schools international health services program, told the Herald. -

“The best in Africa” - is that a joke.
All of those third world countries are inherently dangerous - the danger could erupt at any moment. Not a place for a first-worlder to be pregnant. Not a good idea to work during a pregnancy.
Thanks for making my point.
And how very like a Dem of you - resorting to name-calling when you have no argument.
muslims in Africa would be a pretty tough sell for any Gospel other than Mohamhead tales. If one were interested in suicide, Africa would be a good choice. Maybe go in with an elite commando team heavily armed with air support and a large perimeter.
It’s not a name, it’s a description.
Do you want my argument? Pregnancy is not an illness, women can and do function quite well when pregnant and none of us would wish to be “confined” for nine months while waiting for a new family member to join us. We can, and do live in the world while pregnant. This was something that could happen to anyone, anywhere in the world. Don’t delude yourself that we are safe here.
How’s that?
They probably chose Nairobi because she was working in a more rural area. If I was in East Africa and needed medical care, I’d go to Nairobi too. South, Joburg, West, probably Accra. North, you’re close enough to Europe :-)
We have a lot of experience in Africa but of course we know the risks. When DH finally retires he’s looking to take an embassy medical post and we would jump at the chance to live in Africa.
Life is so much richer with travel. It’s too bad this young family became the victims of terrorists. But it’s a fate any one of us can meet, which is why we should live every day to the fullest.
It’s not a description when used as an epithet, which is what you did.
Your argument - if it could be called that - is not responsive to my point, but is representative of contemporary leftist magazine rhetoric - all about how women can do anything, how dare anyone suggest that they be impeded in any way, etc.
But I wasn’t talking about the woman, and whether she wakes up feeling that she wants to run the NY marathon - she shouldn’t do it because it could be harmful to the baby. Confinement - which at your magazine level of comprehension, you seem to have interpreted as being imprisoned - wasn’t about treating pregnancy as an illness, but about understanding that the foetus was vulnerable, and providing maximum care and protection for the mother and unborn child.
I understand what you are saying, having close intimate knowledge of the same.
Not sure where it was stated that she was working there, too much info flow today, my apologies.
Having said that, when traveling from Tanzania to Italy, a stop over in Nairobi was deemed TOO UNSAFE to deplane, thus sitting on board for hours. Maybe you know places there that are not under distress, I surely do not.
