Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will not join an effort in the Senate to block a House-passed spending bill that defunds Obamacare, a spokesman for McConnell said Monday.
Sen. McConnell supports the House Republicans bill and will not vote to block it, since it defunds Obamacare and funds the government without increasing spending by a penny. He will also vote against any amendment that attempts to add Obamacare funding back into the House Republicans bill, said Don Stewart, a spokesman for the Republican senator.
The statement represents a divergence from the approach favored by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), who want Republicans to oppose a procedural vote on the House bill before Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) plans to strip out the Obamacare defunding provision by a majority vote.
If and when the majority leader goes down that path, Washington Democrats will have to decide without hiding behind a procedural vote whether or not to split with their leadership and join Republicans and their constituents in opposing the re-insertion of Obamacare funding into the House-passed bill, Stewart added.
A spokeswoman for McConnells top lieutenant, Minority Whip John Cornyn of Texas, said that Cornyn too will break with Cruz and Lee.
Sen. Cornyn will not block a bill that defunds Obamacare, the spokeswoman said.
Thank you very much!
Thank you very much!
It’s a privilege to work with you,
And fight our Republic’s enemies!
It seems a bit bizarre,
With things the way they are,
That TEXAS politicians are the enemy!
Thank you very, very, very much!
Thanks for the ping!
Thanks for the ping. See post #58 for Cornyn’s contact info...phone and fax #’s.
And they can continue the appropriations fight all year long right up to Nov 2014 if they have to. There’s nothing more important to fight for. It is the fight for the very survival of the constitution and our beloved republic.
Thank you, Jane. One way or another, Cornhole is going to get an earful from me.
Texas Politics is complicated.
Has always been so.
Cornyn for a while hung on Cruz’s shirt tail. He must be receiving pressure elsewhere.
He saw what happened to Kay Bailey Hutchison and decided he did not want that. But lately he has strayed.
Mark Levin: Mitch McConnell just STABBED Ted Cruz and Mike Lee IN THE BACK

Thank you for the Link. I just emailed Cornyn. I will back any opponent of his.
I got such pleasure of sending in my RNC Survey this year. Can you believe they even want money to help process them. The GOP Is DEAD to me. I made it very clear they would not get a penny from me and that I would only back candidates individually, not through them.
SICK. OF. IT.
My Kaspersky does not like your URL.....
Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are the only two Republicans in the US Senate who CONSISTENTLY make an effort to actually CONSERVE, in my humble, but usually correct opinion.
Therefore, use those two Senators to compare and contrast the present opponents to Old-Style Republican Cornyn.
My guess is that someone on this TEXAS PING list personally knows a superb future Senate candidate, cut from the same cloth as Cruz and Lee.
Yep, it is a dirty job, but we need to reach out to these future candidates, and ask them to run for Federal office for the good of their children, grandchildren and their descendants.
What we have here, is failure to communicate. ( Warden in movie Cool Hand Luke.)
We claim to be Conservatives, but what are we focused on Conserving?
Where are the men and women that are willing to be candidates to conserve what we want conserved?
The New Republican Party starts when YOU step up and act.
What has each of us done to encourage and recruit men and women to be candidates to conserve what is left of our State or Country?
How have we failed to communicate?
I thought early today that he was going to vote to defund. Guess he was against it before he was for it before he was against it again. Typical.
Everyone in the country should understand that. It's basic civics.
The other wrinkle, a very simple wrinkle, is that Cruz anticipates that Reed will add back Obamacare funding to the bill before sending it for a vote of the Senate. Therefore, Cruz says, GOP senators must vote NO on cloture, since there will not be 51 votes to defeat the bill, though only 41 NO votes are required to defeat cloture. Now Reed is also threatening to change the rule on cloture, but that is a different topic.
From this thread, it appears that MANY Freepers do not understand this. Any GOPe senator reading this thread will correctly think that we are lambs awaiting fleecing, that they will have nothing to worry about in voting for cloture and then against the Reed-modified bill.
Voter education is required and Cruz is the man to do it, getting the public to contact their senators. Last moment procedural steps by Reed, who controls the process, will make it necessary for Cruz's allies in the senate to tie up the Senate's business for a couple of days while he, Cruz, goes to the people.
Most importantly, Cruz and Lee, and hopefully Paul and others, need to get in front of the public now and explain how procedure in the Senate works. They can't just presume that the voter's eyes will gloss over, since the same trick will be used perpetually on this and other issues.
Public ignorance on this topic has resulted in countless lost Senate battles by conservatives over decades. This must stop. There is no more critical time for this awakening than in the effort to hamstring Obamacare.
Well, that certainly settles it...
I ran into a John Cornyn campaign promoter (staffer) last night at the Harris County Republican Party, District Executive meeting...A really nice young lady, and I asked her point blank, without knowledge of this story, “if he is in with both feet with the Jr. Senator from Texas???”
I got a “Oh, yes he is!”
What a shame...Poor thing, she latched onto a sinking ship, and doesn’t even know it...
I believe the Republican party is in even more trouble than some people are thinking...It is consuming its own, and with absolutely no help from the leadership, both national and state organizations, the GOPe’s, the moderates and RINO’s...It is clear the Republican Parties heyday is long gone in American politics...
I guess it is unfortunate that I would be considered part of the problem being an “establishment” affiliate, but for the longest time I have worked hard to shed that yoke, the burden of supporting such feckless elected officials has taken its toll, on myself and many others who do yeoman’s work in trying to plug all the holes in this ship...
Maybe someday, there may be a resurgence, an epiphany...That some who remain active in this “party” might have and bounce back...But I believe it will only be when most of us who have done what we can to keep the ship afloat are long gone...
I do want to see how well this effort goes with Cruz, Lee and a few others who are sticking up for what is right for this country...
Tom DeLay spoke to the body last night, I believe it was his first major public appearance since he ducked under the radar years ago following all the BS Ronnie Earle (former Travis County DA, “Austinite”)...He is writing a book about “how” to win back some confidence and work to “restore” what things have been lost by the American people from this liberal/socialist political jugernaut...
I believe that when it is published it should be required reading from someone who is unapologetic about their conservatism and who puts their efforts behind action instead of empty rhetoric that seems to be all too prevalent in today’s politics...
Just my opinion...
You’re hitting the nail on the proverbial head!!!
Too bad the pressure to perform this miracle is being exerted from forces outside the constituencies of these gomers districts...
And for ALL the wrong reasons, intent AND differing result...
The people of this country that still care are getting screwed and don’t even know how bad it is going to get...
Not that its all that hunky-dorry now, it is definitely going to get worse...
How we are going to correct this when the chickens come home to roost is almost beyond me...
I posted several times yesterday I knew Cornyn was part of the Obamacare supporters and those bashing Cruz.
It appears that at this moment, the only difference between John Cornyn and a democrat is that the democrat is honest about his intention.
This Texan can't stand the lying traitor Cornyn.
I think nothing says more about Cornyn that he supported Arlen Specter until the day Arlen changed parties...again.
Cornyn became a career politician the first day he was elected to office!
I’m plenty soured on him. Called his office yesterday and told him in no uncertain terms if he didn’t support Ted Cruz he was dead politically to me.
I think they are self-serving, screw us. The American people were so happy in 2010 that we got so many GOP elected.....I may have to sit the Senate off my ballot in the next election. I live in the south so the republicans will probably win anyway but they won’t do it with my vote.
