Two children are facing deportation after they were kidnapped by their mother's boyfriend and rescued but authorities learned that they were in the United States illegally.

Brownsville police arrested 31-year-old Luis Armando Avonce Hernandez at the Gateway International Bridge on Friday.

Hernandez allegedly tried to cross into Mexico with four children under the age of 11.

Investigators told Action 4 News that Hernandez was not the biological father to one of the children.

Hernandez claimed that his live-in girlfriend had had left the children in the care of her brother and he did not agree with that, so he decided to take them without the mother's consent.

Two of the children were American citizens but the other two were not.

Brownsville police reported that Hernandez was also in the United States illegally.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers released the two children that were American citizens to Child Protective Services while the other two were to be detained pending deportation.

Hernandez was arrested on one count of kidnapping for attempting to take the non biological child into Mexico without their mother's consent.

The Brownsville man remains in custody under a $10,000 bond and an immigration detainer.

I do believe this headline is misleading.. I do not think DHS will deport these kids.

In my world, you'd have to adjust the trebouchet to account for the lighter weight. But they would go back.

So Hernandez was arrested for trying to leave the United States, but not for entering illegally - makes you wonder.

I fail to see what one has to do with the other.

Likely he was checked because of the children. There are laws on the books to keep people from leaving the country with children that are not their own- or leaving with your own children without the knowledge or consent of the other parent. People are not always checked, some get through the cracks but legally you are not supposed to be able to just leave the country with children without showing parents know and approve.

Not at all, they wouldn’t have bothered him if he had been coming in.

Stop the father from self-deporting them to Mexico, so we can deport them?
Reminds me of an incident in medieval England, when suicide was a major crime. A guy tried to cut his own throat, but the suicide failed. They tried him for the 'crime' and sentenced him to be hanged. That wouldn't work, though, because he could still breathe through the hole in his throat. So they wrapped his throat with bandages in order to complete the execution!

Sounds to me like the guy was just trying to do the right thing...naturally an offense under today’s ground rules.

They were, by their light, doing him a kindness.

If you committed suicide your soul went to hell and you could not be buried in concentrated ground.

However if you were executed you got what you wanted (death) you could receive last rites, your soul would end up in heaven, (after the appropriate time in purgatory) and you could be buried in concentrated ground.

Interesting, and perhaps accurate, viewpoint. However, what if he had come to realize that he wanted to live, after all?

Better be careful if you wanted to suicide in those days. You probably would have ended up dead one way or another.

Did you ever see a movie called Ruben, Ruben?
If not, I strongly recommend that you try to view it — it’s hilarious, with a kick ending that is not too far from this topic.
