On Fridays Special Report on the Fox News Channel, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer mocked the Republican tactic of using the budget process to defund President Barack Obamas 2010 health care reform law.
Krauthammer called the Houses vote to defund the law Kabuki and warned that it would come back to haunt congressional Republicans.
I think the Boehner speech is what you would expect, Krauthammer said. He didnt want to do it. He had to do it, so he had to defend it, and thats Kabuki. I think its going to go to the Senate and if we end up with a shutdown, its going to be Kamikaze, and the Republicans will end up sushi very thin slices. And everybody knows this. This is sort of a charade. Cruz is going to get a lot of airtime. Hes gotten a huge amount of airtime. There is nowhere to go on this.
He did note the law was very unpopular and was fraught with flaws, but he said the Republicans could stand in the way of defeating it.
The irony is as I have been saying for weeks, Obamacare is so unpopular even the unions are up in arms against it, he said. The AFL-CIO came within a hair of calling for its repeal. Right now they want all kinds of changes, which they are not going to get. Youve got Democrats against it. Its about to kick in and we heard today that they dont even have the software that will enable the system to calculate what the subsidies are after hearing that they dont have the software to ascertain what you say is your income and thus, your subsidy. Its true, so its on an honor system. This is going to be a complete disaster. Were on the threshold of that. As Chuck indicates, the Republicans were on the upswing of the issue and now this? Its insane and its not going to happen.
How's that worked out so far, Chuckie?
Maybe we should use that tactic on gun rights as well.
Is that how the Democrats get almost everything they want?
Too much thinking; not enough doing.
Happy Friday.
Pray for the brave ones. They’ve struck a nerve.
sounds good... i like sushi... dragon roll, please...
I have a lot of respect for Dr. Krauthammer but he needs a little more fire in the belly.
Put a sock in it, Charles.
Krauthammer didn’t see the Reagan victories or the Tea party victories. His opinion is drivel.
and a salmon skin roll...
Thank God we have folks like Cruz and Bridenstein. The Tea Party will save our Republic
Why are so many “conservatives” predicting failure and criticizing the effort?
Smartest guy in the room attitude here.
What does the great one,Mark Levin, have to say about this?
the old saw...”Do or DIe” was never more fitting.
God’s speed to all of us who sense the need to DO whats being done.
Doing the right thing is always the right thing to do.
Obamacare (aka KrautCare) is a train wreck for We The People.
So basically, Krauthammer believes we should set zero as our initial bargaining point and fall back from there.
The fake Republicans a la Karl Rove are coming out of the woodwork for us all to see on this issue. They would much rather just “go along to get along” as usual and are having to buckle under our phone calls. Take note who they are.
If CK is right and if the government shuts down then a worst case scenario would be the dems taking the house and holding the senate in 2014.
I’m worried that the GOP could over-play it’s hand at some point.
You can bet “common sense gun control” will be their first agenda item.
He feels the same way about fighting abortion or fighting to lower taxes too.
He has a point, in the sense that it gives the Dems a “hammer.” At least according to this account, he provides no alternative. In that sense, he has nothing.
