WASHINGTON, DC Today, U.S. Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) praised House Republicans for proposing a spending bill that funds the federal government, prevents a government shut down, and permanently defunds Obamacare:
Todays announcement by Speaker Boehner is a victory for the American people, said Sen. Lee. For months, Americans have been telling Washington to fund the operations of government but also protect them from the harmful effects and unfair implementation of Obamacare. The spending proposal the Speaker put forth today shows that if the American people are united, Washington does listen. We encourage the House to approve this legislation quickly and I applaud Speaker Boehner for his leadership on this proposal. Then it will be up to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to pass this measure to fund government and defund Obamacare.
Today's announcement that the House will vote to defund Obamacare is terrific news, said Sen. Cruz. Just a few weeks ago, this was deemed impossible. We commend House leadership and House Republicans for listening to the people and for taking decisive action to stop Obamacare, the biggest job-killer in America. Harry Reid will no doubt try to strip the defund language from the continuing resolution, and right now he likely has the votes to do so. At that point, House Republicans must stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people. President Obama has already granted Obamacare exemptions to big corporations and Members of Congress; he should not threaten to shut down the government just to deny those same exemptions to hard-working American families."
The American people have made clear they want Washington to keep the government open but also need protection from Obamacares harmful effects, said Sen. Rubio. Todays announcement would accomplish what the American people have been asking of Congress. A solution is within sight in order to avert another crisis of Washingtons creation. President Obama and his allies in Congress should abandon their threats of shutting down the government and instead work with Republicans to pass this proposal that would keep government open while preventing taxpayer dollars from being used to inflict Obamacares damage on peoples jobs, incomes, current health plans and doctor relationships.
Go Rubio!

“I don’t get it! Why would any politician....”
It’s all about power. They crave it. The ability to dictate the most minute details of other people’s lives. It’s a moral and spiritual sickness, really.
Do you agree with the point of his statement, defund Obamacare?
Correct. Im glad for all the support we can muster. Too many have worked too hard for folks to cull support.
Issue by issue folks.
Like him or not Rubio is a great speaker and Id rather he be on our side for this fight.
I’m a little sick of the attacks on Rubio here. Some people evidently disagree with his position on immigration - but in many cases, I think they don’t even know what it is (he wanted a sort of piece-by-piece reform of the system) - but there’s certainly nothing else they could find fault with him on, if they’re honestly examining his positions. And he is an excellent, intelligent speaker who does not talk down to his audience.
Personally, I think the Dems are working hard to sow dislike of Rubio among conservatives, because the Dems perceive him, quite rightly, as a threat.
I agree. Im surely not in favor of that bill but damn if Im not going to take his support on getting rid of 0bamacare.
Three words: Gang of Eight
Sure I do
He’s as phoney as a three dollar bill however, and can’t be trusted
why are some House republicans see this speech as a surrender? -
“House agrees to send #CR to Senate that defunds Obamacare. @SenTedCruz & @SenMikeLee refuse to fight. Wave white flag and surrender,” tweeted Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.).
“So far Sen Rs are good at getting Facebook likes, and townhalls, not much else. Do something...,” tweeted Rep. Tim Griffin (R-Ark.).
these establishment men?
So Senators Cruz and Lee state the obvious, and the so-called conservative patriots in the House take him to task?
What a bunch of girlie-men.
Senators Cruz and Lee are correct that where this gets stopped is in the House.
Lest we forget, they control the purse strings, the Senate doesn’t.
Furthermore, instead of attacking Senators Cruz and Lee, maybe these House members could focus on not capitulating under any circumstances and forcing Boehner to refuse to surrender as well.
Nawwwww. That would be too simple and straightforward, right?
can’t cruz and lee filibuster any attempt to detach the defunding language from the CR the house passes?
I don’t believe that you can filibuster a budget resolution in the senate.
“these establishment men?”
I wondered too so I went to http://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/sean_duffy/412488 and also the same site for Tim Griffin.
Tim Griffin shows up pretty far right while Duffy shows just a little bit better than Collins. That site is pretty interesting as they place red dots in a cluster on the right and blue ones on the left so you get a visual of where each one is relative to the rest. The dot placements are based on all of each person’s votes.
I found it interesting that Duffy (Wis.) personally attacked Cruz and Lee (but NOT Rubio) in his twitty tweet while the much more conservative Griffin complained about “Sen Rs” in general not doing much.
I should have added that if you let your cursor hover over a dot, the name for that dot shows up so you don’t need to do separate searches.
thanks for the link, bookmarked for the future.
