We'll be uploading our entire MINDS to computers by 2045 and our bodies will be replaced by machines within 90 years, Google expert claims
Ray Kurzweil, director of engineering at Google, believes we will be able to upload our entire brains to computers within the next 32 years - an event known as singularity Our 'fragile' human body parts will be replaced by machines by the turn of the century And if these predictions comes true, it could make humans immortal
In just over 30 years, humans will be able to upload their entire minds to computers and become digitally immortal - an event called singularity - according to a futurist from Google. Ray Kurzweil, director of engineering at Google, also claims that the biological parts of our body will be replaced with mechanical parts and this could happen as early as 2100. Kurweil made the claims during his conference speech at the Global Futures 2045 International Congress in New York at the weekend.

I think this highly unlikely. However, if we get to the point where we can do parts of it, I predict some interesting dystopian possibilities.
Memory is not the same as personality. There’s a lot of systems operating in parallel in the brain, and a lot of inter-regulation. Look at some of our crazy criminals—I bet 99% of their mind is fully functional. I could see a lot of ways that this might not turn out right at first (if ever).
Nah, my guess is that Google will do it first.
Thankfully I’ll be long dead by then!!
Liberals: There is no heaven or afterlife, but we will (in most of their lifetimes) be able to become immortal in cyberspace or as robots.
There is no distinct soul, but we can upload our minds regardless of our bodies.
There is no God or gods, but expecting immortality via a Singularity that is still a remote technological possibility is reasonable.
Ahh... I see someone else remembers elementary school in the 1970s!
“I am still waiting for my flying car”
Go buy it if you have the money, it’s on the market but it does require a pilots license!!!
thx Bill
;)
Our progress in medicine is going to plummet due to Obamacare and its hard to see the RAT machine getting knocked out of the way to stop it. The only wild card in all this is the Internet, which is the most important change from 1981.
I don’t remember if it was Cracked.com or io9 that brought up the ethics of life extension. If you double life expectancy, how do you prevent massive depopulation?
In “The Declaration”, you can choose to have children or immortality, but not both.

I started studying artificial intelligence in the 80s, thinking it would be the next big thing. By the 90s, I realized there hadn’t been any progress in 15 years. I then studied consciousness and realized we have no scientific explanation of consciousness.
If we don’t know how something works, we can’t program it.
It’s been 15 years since then, and there still has been no progress on consciousness.
I don’t think there will be in 32 years either.
you think there is no soul? Or perhaps you think that your collection of memories represented as a tangled web of neurons and synapses is your soul? If either is the case, people should just kill themselves immediately after downloading their memories to a hard drive. Why not? There’s nothing to lose after all. Do you think you could do it? Are you sure that you would be whole after coming back as nothing more than a collection of memories? Or would you just be a vessel full of some dead person’s memories? I think there’s more to us than a collection of memories. There is a mind, a body, and a soul and when the body dies, the soul is gone even if the mind be preserved. You would not be the same after dying. You would not be intact.
There is an Outer Limits where you get teleported across space to another planet. They download all the information that makes up you and then send it at the speed of light and then you are remade. In the meantime they kill you before your copy is sent. Well, something goes wrong and the machine didn’t kill the woman and she ends up begging for her life. I enjoyed the episode.
I just looked it up. It is called “Think Like A Dinosaur.”
Amen to that, and I’m also pretty sure that human life on earth achieving immortality isn’t high on God’s overall plan of things heh.
Ya know......maybe it’s time for the great solar magnetic pulse reset to burn out all the electronics and computers and return humans to a natural evolutional footing.
I can’t imagine that what’s going on now is any part of God’s plan for humanity.
CC
well i think you and i reject the premise that this really makes any person ‘immortal’.
I say it is good, we upload a bunch a freepers and i set some copy jobs and outnumber those lazy libs 10^24 to 1.
Beck had a rant on Pelosi today that she died in 2006 and has been animatronic ever since, LOL
