MEDINA, Ohio A 42-year-old father of five and adopted son of an American serviceman sits in a jail cell awaiting deportation to Panama, where he was born and abandoned.
The possible deportation stems from a mistake long ago on Pattrick Henderson's adoption form that prevented the Buckeye High School graduate from becoming a U.S. citizen.
Now some Buckeye alumni and friends have launched an effort to try and prevent the deportation from happening.
Henderson was 18 months old in 1973, when he was adopted by Army Special Forces member Edgar Henderson and his wife. They were stationed in Panama until Edgar Henderson retired the following year and returned to Medina County, where Pattrick grew up.
When he was 13, Pattrick Henderson learned that he was adopted, but it wasn't until he tried to enlist in the Army that he found out that he is not a U.S. citizen. Attempts to obtain citizenship failed because of an error in his adoption paperwork, which lists two different dates of birth for him. And the family couldn't afford to travel to Panama to try an get the document corrected.

No doubt he VOTED ILLEGALLY for Sherrod Brown (that’s a large portion of the Dem votes in Ohio, and they DEPEND on Fraud in the Big Counties to win).
Great catch!!!!
Really? Just pick one of the birthdates and make him a U.S. citizen. Bureaucrats...
The guy was adopted as an 18-month-old baby by a GI. As far as I’m concerned, he could go on a mass murder spree, but he’d still an American. I can’t believe ICE is nickel-and-diming him over some lousy paperwork when it’s doing catch-and-release with illegal border-crossers.
They went nuts getting that German homeschooling family out of here
Amazing that the guy can’t get forgiveness under the 1986 Reagan amnesty or latest DREAM act.
I'm no fan of Obama, but I've got to say that he has appointed much more effective people for implementing his agenda than Bush ever did.
A white guy in a Republican city? Not going to happen.
Same record on a Mexican, and we roll out the red friggin’ carpet and shower him with welfare benefits.
To be clear, when I say he’s a white guy, I mean that he doesn’t have a Spanish name, has a white wife (based on his daughter’s looks) and is culturally white, given that his GI dad is a generic white guy.
Eh, that’s easy, deporting people.
He’s even got a whole department to do it. THey get paid for nothing.
I am not impressed.
The laundry list includes ginning up executive orders for not deporting certain classes of people, filing lawsuits against companies for discriminating against illegal aliens, catch-and-release and so on.
No kidding.
He’s an American, good or bad. Exile the debt-sucking political/regulator class instead.
What I meant was, we had an amnesty 25 years ago for illegal aliens - why can’t he be retroactively included? He’s been here for four+ decades.
I think that amnesty, unlike the current one being proposed, required a clean record. This guy is neither fish nor fowl - he is neither citizen nor illegal alien. I'd say he was technically a green card holder by virtue of his adoption. Congress should pass a law automatically granting citizenship to anyone adopted while a minor under some age threshold by a citizen. This kind of case is just nutty.
“Attempts to obtain citizenship failed because of an error in his adoption paperwork, which lists two different dates of birth for him.” Hey this guy can be elected president!
