It has been called the most popular rifle in America, and it's back in the spotlight after Monday's shooting at the Navy Yard: The AR-15.
Authorities said when Aaron Alexis unleashed a barrage of bullets Monday, he was carrying a rifle and a handgun. But he did most of the shooting with the weapon used in so many other rampages that shocked the nation:
List of 4 other shootings.

With Monday's incident, the gun will likely be in the crosshairs again. And again, it's likely nothing will change.

Obviously, we need to pass new laws making it illegal to shoot an armed guard amd steal his weapon..........Oh, wait.......
Actually modding an AR to full auto or 3 shot isn’t all
that hard......if you have the parts, or can modify existing
parts with machine tools. It’s not rocket science...merely
illegal. Any competent High School shop student could do it
with a bit of coaching.
Exactly my thought. Unfortunately, I live behind the Blue Curtain, in the People’s Republic of New Jersey.
If that were the case, it wouldn’t be an AR-15, would it? More mistaken information (or deliberate misinformation) on the part of the press.
Deliberate, preplanned, and purposed lying. The Media is much worse than the Soviet-Era Pravda ever hoped to be.
Me too.

Yes but this time the truth was told before the stasi could stop it and we must fight harder than ever before if they try to ban our rights again.
IIRC... that would be a military M-4 that he stole.
We ought to have more laws against killing guards and stealing their military-issued weapons.
They need to start Shore Patrols again and arm MP’s and act like we are at war because we are. Just look at what we did during WW II and repeat.

Where else would you get the news but from eye witness reports on the ground and reporting directly from the scene? I hear you but these local reports are usually the most accurate. I do not think that we know 1/10 of the truth today... but we will.
Was it actually a sawed off shotgun (illegally modified) or just a pistol grip shotgun?
You know something...The poor little AK-47 sure is getting left behind in all of this.../sarc
It’s definitely not feeling the love...
I have heard double barreled shotgun, sawed off shotgun, and Remington 870 now. The PTB are not being forthcoming with solid information, only solid misinformation. They want this to fit their narrative.
If it was that easy, they need to seriously review their security protocols.
The guy obtained the rifle, whatever it was, and handgun from some sort of LEO using a Remington 870 pump action shotgun, probably the most common shotgun in America so banning assault weapons wouldn’t have stopped him.
Just shows that shotguns must be banned too.

Agreed! Military personnel, as Law Enforcement personnel, are targets once they put on the uniform. This incident would have ended quickly if just the uniformed personnel present had been armed.
You hit the nail on the head. Most Mil and Fed facilities have a vary arcane weapon carry protocol (including war zones) and the problem is everyone knows it. This shooter, being prior Military, would certainly know it, hell our enemies know it. This carry protocol makes it a losing proposition for security personnel when a weapon ready intruder shows up at their post.
