It is our duty to stop stuff like this.
Guyer High School (and obviously several others) are complicit in attempting to condition students to interpret the 2nd Amendment in a clearly opposite manner in which it was intended. The 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are also misinterpreted as several commentators below pointed out.
This textbook, currently being used by Guyer High School, is attempting to redefine the Second Amendment to impressionable young minds. Parents, you must speak up and demand action. Investigate your child's history book ASAP, and post more pictures in the comments below. Call your school and demand that revisionist history books like this are removed from the school district.
Textbook version: "The people have a right to keep and bear arms in a state militia."
Actual 2nd Amendment: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Did you catch the sleight of hand?
A militia is a body of citizens enrolled for military service, and called out periodically for drill but serving full time only in emergencies. It's a common man army of citizens, NOT soldiers. The citizens are called up in emergencies to protect the free State.
The 2nd Amendment says that a militia is necessary to protect a free State, so in order to be able to have a militia, the citizens have a natural right to keep and bear arms and the government cannot infringe on that right.
The textbook version implies that we're only allowed to keep and bear arms if we're in a State militia, a clear misrepresentation of the 2nd Amendment.
Your Call to Action:
1. Call Guyer High School and tell the appropriate person something like the following:
"Hello, my name is _______________. I saw that your AP History course has issued a book titled, United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination. In this book, on page 102, the definition provided for the Second Amendment is incorrect and seems to be suggesting that only members of a State Militia are allowed to keep and bear arms. Who made the decision to use this text book? I'd like them to issue a public statement on this book's attempt to redefine the 2nd Amendment and why they chose to use it. We would also like this issue to be discussed at the next school board meeting. Please include it on the official agenda."

2. If you live in the area or if you child attends this school, organize with your neighbors and storm the next school board meeting to demand answers.
School Board Meeting
Tuesday, September 24, 2013 6:00 PM
The Denton ISD Board of Trustees will be meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Board Room at the Dennis Stephens Central Services Building. For more information please contact Kim Stevenson, administrative assistant to the superintendent, at (940) 369-0002.
3. Inspect your child's history book and photograph other instances of intentional misrepresentations. Post pictures and blog about these occurrences. Demand your school districts regain control of their curriculum.
4. Share this story with your friends, family, and media connections to raise awareness.
UPDATE:
Just got off the phone with Kim Stevenson, Admin to the Superintendent.
1. Board members will not address any speaking on an item that is not part of the official agenda.
2. A community member could not add an item to the agenda.
3. You must sign in at Kim's desk in order to speak. You can speak up to 2 times and for 3 minutes. If a large number of us are attending we can assign a person to be our spokesperson and they may possibly give that person extra time.
The state adopts the textbooks every couple of years. She advised that besides attending next week's board meeting that we also speak with Darrell Muncy, Director of Student Services or speak with someone in the curriculum department.
Ping!
Texas has a huge population ...
so goes Texas text books so goes the nation.
WTF?
I’ll make that phone call in the morning.
Hows that Gov’t funded edjumacation workin’ out for ya?
THATS a book worthy of burning.
Why is it hard to believe it is happening in Texas?
The same people run the public schools in Texas that run them in Kalipornia. They are funded and controlled the same way. Public schools are public schools no matter where they are located.
The terrorist that launched Obama’s career in politics and probably wrote his books once said something like; ‘the engine of revolution is in the schools’.
We need to take back our institutions; schools, the press and govt agencies. This will mean that those that agree with the Constitution must go into those fields.
What I would like to see is townships calling armed people 18 to 45 to muster once every 6 months or so to run through some simple drills for a few hours.
It would be very interesting to see how liberals would react to such a thing especially if it were conducted by the smallest possible elected government unit.
Calling it a summary dont cut the mustard!
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
It might have been a state militia, but the citizens purchased and owned their own guns. The weapons were not issued by the state. A huge difference.
We are heading down the railway fast and there is no stopping now.
This is interesting. Since Texas has such a large population, they tend to have a lot of control over the textbooks used in Texas schools. Do we know if this is something produced in the school district or is it used statewide?
We’ve all heard this lecture before, but I’m going to give it again. As long as the NEA and the political left control our schools, they cease to be institutions of learning and become indoctrination centers in liberal philosophy. If we want education to be about learning and not indoctrination, we have to pay attention and get control of the schools away from the leftists. It’s that simple.
However, if we all shrug our shoulders and say “what can I do? They aren’t going to listen to me” then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. We know that freedom isn’t free, but neither is a free society. When we let the politicians take an inch, the next time they’ll take a yard and the time after that, they’ll give us ObamaCare!!
Each of us has a voice and we have to use it while we still can.

How about we get names, e-mail addresses, and private phone numbers?
Then ruin them. Treasonous sons of bitches.
Not to mention that the 5th Amendment has nothing to do with double jeopardy. The words are not used as such or in any manner of that word formation.
This is a travesty. While you all are at it— look up who the writers are— and the publisher. You need to attack at the board level and the curriculum level. The text is completely inaccurate, and does not SAY what our Constitution says. The interpretation of the Constitution by wishful thinking is NOT the actual Constitution. They need to GET this in their heads.
Thank you for posting such concise action steps. This is what we need to see MORE of on FR!! Making calls, tomorrow!
They all probly come highly recommended by the NEA.
Good points. The Constitution was written in plain language anyone could understand.
You are right. This is not what the Courts have decided. The militia is, historically, just the men of military age—15-45. There is also the organized militia, which is those men who are trained for war. The Minutemen who stood on Lexington Green brought their own weapons.
Need the company who published the book. That is most important.
Then we call the publisher.
Publisher is the problem, as well the school board who approved it!
