Pat Buchanan: People worldwide ‘are sick of hearing’ talk of American exceptionalism
dailycaller.com ^ | September 15, 2013

Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan offered a counterintuitive reaction to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s op-ed in The New York Times last week, saying that other countries are “sick of hearing Americans” calling themselves exceptional.

Buchanan, author of “Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025?” argued that Putin echoed what Obama and many Americans had said with regards to the United States as the world’s exceptional superpower.

“From the hysterical reaction in this city [Washington, D.C.] to Putin’s op-ed piece, he put this one right down the smokestack,” Buchanan said on ’s broadcast of “The McLaughlin Group. “What he did is he keyed off what Obama said on exceptionalism and he countered it with an argument which people all over the world believe. They are sick of hearing Americans talk about ‘we are the indispensable nation,’ as Madeline Albright said. ‘We see further than ours, that’s why we can use force.’ ‘We are the sheriff of the world, we are first, we are leaders.’ He’s not only appealing to the people of the world, he is appealing to that half of the United States to whom Barack Obama himself was appealing. So, I think he hit home.”

Recently a student of mine had me read Bastiat’s _The Law_. In it Bastiat relates three isms socialism, communism and protectionism. I could not help but think of Buchanan who thinks himself a conservative, but who is consistently for higher taxes.

If that happens, I will die of a broken heart, to see my country stoop so low.

SHUDDER...

The world is sick of us. What are we going to do about it?

No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens

And he could ask, “How many decades ago was that?” And then he could say, “And now you use our rockets to go into space.”

I’m not saying America isn’t exceptional. But living off past achievements is not exceptional. Instead of talking about it all the time, we need to be exceptional and nothing will NEED to be said.

We lost our way after the end of the Cold War.

Like it or not, the Cold War gave us a sense of purpose....with it over, we seem too eager to find new monsters to fight.

Hee’s the problem, some conservatives are rushing to Obama’s defense just because Putin insulted him. Come on, let’s look at the big picture. Don’t rescue the Democrats: Hillary and Jeb, and just let them flounder. Why must we rescue the Democrats?

Death ad violence is not the answer.

Getting to the moon wasn’t about that

While we were going to the moon, check the veracity of this by any public or private school attendee of the time, we were in a serious education race.

It’s true, but forgotten

We pay lip service to education while allowing libs to take over

Buchanan has a point. And if the endless American interventions are so important, how come the children of the political elite are almost never found in the military fighting for “American Exceptionalism”? Sarah Palin’s son is one of the few political types to have had a son in the military and she's hardly the Beltway insider. As the Bible says “PRIDE GOETH BEFORE DESTRUCTION AND A HAUGHTY SPIRIT BEFORE A FALL”.

The United States benefitted from two things post-Cold War.

1. We were the only major industrialized country that didn’t have a good part of their infrastructure destroyed by the war.

2. A good chunk of the world was engaged in that failed experiment called “Communism” with its’ inefficient central planning.

Of course it makes sense under those conditions that we were able to eat the Worlds’ lunch. But now the rest of the world is catching up quickly.

in the long run of things, what the hell difference has it made who got to the moon first?....

we are losing civil liberties every day...we who work are taxed up to 60-70% of what we earn, what with SS, Medicare,Income, Property, Sales, etc...

we have homosexuals running the country and being placed in key positions including the military and justice, we have a massive govt invasion of every private communication and every private financial transaction....

what we were is not what we are now....

I'm devastated by it....but I'm accepting it more and more..OUR America...the righteous, God fearing, industrious nation we once were, is gone....

I often have strong disagreements with Pat, but to be realistic, we have not been exceptional since the 80s, although I think the real turning point was when Clinton retained his office with public support.
Since then its been nothing but crap.

Take heart though, because NONE of it was our fault. It was the libtards who destroyed America.

The American kneepad media lies, spins, and protects

It's far more than that. The "media" for the most part the old school, is an active part of the plan to subjugate America into the globalist techno authoritarian oligochracy.

Way back last century the elite class realized America would be a hard nut to crack towards creating their feudal utopia. You had a whole nation weaned on individualism and rich in resources. They knew it would be a long haul to achieve their ends, but they believe (probably correctly) that they are close, so close they can almost touch it.

All roads lead to their desired end. Education; watered down and diluted to their ends. Wealth; tightly constrained in accumulation unless you already have it, or are co opted to their side. Self perpetuating unlegislated regulation. The erosion of property rights, the constant assault on the Second Amendment, and many other avenues of attack.

They walk on eggshells now, because they're SOOOoooo close. They walk on eggshells but want the endgame to come quickly, a lot of the architects are old and want to see their poison fruit ripen before they shuffle off to hell.

I believe that's one of the reasons for the frenzied Second Amendment attacks now, the elites want this done with, but they are also terrified of the beast they will awaken if they bring everything crashing down hard rather than softly. They know if the wheels come off of America and the residual, individualist Republic lovers come out of the chaos winning, that they will be hunted like rabid dogs and it will be a millennia before their parasitic families, secret societies, and cabals can regroup and try to start the process over...

Don’t get me wrong. conservatives ARE exceptional, but we are outnumbered by left wing nutjobs, passive idiots, and RINOS like Karl Rove.
