Done deal: US agrees to Russian terms on UN Syria deal
Hot Air ^ | September 14, 2013 | Jazz Shaw

There was coverage of the prospect of this happening by the time Quotes of the day went up last night, but this morning it seems the news is official. A deal has been struck, and it’s pretty much everything Vladimir Putin was insisting on and nothing that the Obama administration wanted for insurance.

...

I’ve been watching some talking heads on CNN this morning trying to spin this as some sort of a win-win, but that sounds like an awful lot of lipstick to try to paint on one rather sickly pig. On the plus side, if you weren’t interested in a war where we wind up helping one of several sets of bad guys, this clearly will be a win. But if you’re monitoring the domestic and international politics and power plays in action, this wound up being nothing but a big old black eye for Barack Obama and John Kerry, while returning Vladimir Putin for a strutting turn on the world stage as a power broker.

Will this be quick, as the President demanded? Not hardly. There will supposedly be “a list” turned over within a week. Of course, you know how lists are… details, details

Not that this means anything, but I am in Tucson AZ and yesterday we were crossing over a train overpass and there was a train carrying new HumVees heading east that was as long as the eye can see. The first thing I thought of was are they going to be shipped to the Middle East?

He always did. I hope it freaked him out to the point of spending his last three years vacationing and playing golf.

What’s a $hundred million when the alternative is $tens of trillions he’ll spend if he acts as CIC?

The annoyance that no one else is allowed to act the way he does by the media?

Yes. Oh well

“The first thing I thought of was are they going to be shipped to the Middle East?”

It’s a lot more likely, IMO, that they are for domestic operations.

I don't care who won and who lost the negotiations. If the use of chemical weapons won't happen again (the terrorists we fund can't blame Assad if he doesn't have chemical weapons) and someone can protect the Christian and other minorities, everybody wins.

If the Russians want to pay for the rebuilding and be a stable presence in Syria, that's okay too. We've shown in Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt and Libya that we aren't getting it done.

It’s not just that he wants it to go away. He wants to be able to blame someone else for the future violence—and since Bush ain’t around, he’ll use Putin.

If you are counting on Putin to protect Christians in Syria or anywhere you are really in BIG trouble. He could care less.

Obama just wants this to go away

And now it will, this whole affair is now handed over to international operators and as time elapses, Obama’s red line will fade away, and whatever the results be in the end, be it good or bad, Obama will only get the credit if it is good, the msm will see to that, if the results are not so good, well, Obama did the best he could and it is not his fault, it was out of his hands. Just watch and see

OBAMA / JOHN F. KENNEDY - HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF…
“Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it” -Jorge Santayana
In 1962 Khrushchev out-smarted John F. Kennedy during the October Missile Crisis in 1962.
In 2013 Putin crushed Obama on Syria’s chemical arsenal disposal.
During the resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy betrayed the Monroe Doctrine, not only by allowing an extra hemispheric power to establish a base in this Continent, but by also committed the U.S. military to protect this enemy Soviet base, established in Cuba, and only 90 miles from our coasts. Under the Kennedy / Khrushchev secret accords, the United States would not allow any attacks on Cuba by the Cuban exiles, whether from American soil or any other country. Furthermore, in order to retire the missiles from Cuba, Kennedy also promised to dismantle the American missiles in Turkey and Italy.
Kennedy trusted the soviets and he did not require verification of the missiles’ removal. So, Castro did not allow neither the United States, nor inspectors from the United Nations, to supervise the return of the Missiles to the Soviet Union.
That feat is presented in the History books as the finest moment of John F. Kennedy’s Presidency. Although, its effects were even more catastrophic for the United States and the rest of Latin America than the Bay of Pigs - the first great defeat of the Kennedy administration. After the Missile Crisis, Castro was able to freely subvert Latin America and send Cuban troops to fight in Africa as mercenaries for the expansion of the Soviet empire, and when doing so, he was secure that the United States would not allow the Cuban communist regime to be attacked.
Fast forward 5 decades, President Obama is currently negotiating the terms for the removal of the chemical arms from Syria. These negotiations entail the removal to be conducted and overseen by Russia/Putin, Assad’s main supporter and must trusted ally! In order for Assad to agree to this plan, he has demanded that Obama promise that the US will not attack the genocidal Syrian regime, under any circumstances. These terms will leave Assad free to continue his butchering of innocent men, women, and children. Once agreed upon, these negotiations would also result in Putin gaining the control over the Middle East’s future, essentially eliminating the central role of the US in that vital area of the world.
To throw salt in the wound, Putin has also promised to further increase the shipment of conventional arms to Syria and Iran in an effort to secure the stability of those regimes; which would in turn make him a strong candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. (Let’s just ignore the fact that 1,400 innocent civilians were murdered by chemical arms; while more than 100,000 innocents were murdered by conventional arms.) Putin will exchange the chemical arms with Assad for an unlimited supply of conventional arms. In addition, Putin has also sent the Russian navy to protect Syria from any possible US attacks. We must all keep in mind the fact that the war in Syria is being waged between two evils. The US should have never gotten involved in the Syrian civil war.
Again, in the most egregious Orwellian fashion, the American media will display Obama’s Syrian debacle as a great victory for peace. Perhaps he will receive another Nobel Peace Prize, and this time it will be shared with Putin.

I think Putin’s been a supporter of Christianity in Russia.

I STILL believe that it's mostly a matter of Putin realizing that a robust Catholic church is the best defense Russia has against Islam. His promotion of Christianity is just pragmatism from a man who is sincerely concerned about his country. (Jesus, I wish the U.S. could learn this.)

And will there be severe repercussions if Assad fails to live up to the terms of the deal in an orderly fashion? Of course there will! But it will be more sanctions, which never seemed to bother him in the fist place. Kerry was clearly pushing for a resolution which included at least a hint of a shadow of a possibility that the UN would give the thumbs up to some form of military action in the event of non-compliance, but Putin managed to erase that entirely.

This is the key, the military option has been removed as an option.
