Princeton University Endorses Plan to Make Campus More Diverse

It has been nearly 50 years since Princeton University began admitting women and actively recruiting minority students, but the school is still too white and too male, according to a new report that calls for big changes on the Ivy League campus.

Christopher Eisgruber, the university’s new president, and the school’s board of trustees signed off today on a series of recommendations by a campus committee convened to take a hard look at campus diversity.

The 19-member group found that Princeton has made great strides in welcoming minorities, women and low-income students into its undergraduate classes in recent decades. But the rest of the school—including graduate programs, faculty and top administrators—still lacks diversity.

"To begin with, ours is an increasingly pluralistic society, and, simply put, Princeton and its peers do not come close to looking like America today," concluded the report by the university’s Trustee Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity.

Princeton’s undergraduate Class of 2016 is the most diverse in the school’s history, with nearly half of the class made up of women and more than 40 percent of the students from minority racial groups. But the other parts of Princeton are not nearly as diverse. White males still make up the majority of the faculty and graduate students in many departments, the report said.

For example, the committee found just 3 percent of doctoral students and 1 percent of postdoctoral fellows at Princeton identified themselves as black. Similarly, Hispanics make up just 2 percent of Princeton’s full professors and senior administrators. Only 22 percent of associate and full professors are women.

"Princetonians have powerful reasons to care deeply about the diversity of the university community. Only by drawing the best talent from every sector of society can we achieve the scholarly and educational excellence to which we aspire."

For example, the committee found just 3 percent of doctoral students and 1 percent of postdoctoral fellows at Princeton identified themselves as black.

Those numbers are likely completely in line with who qualifies based on test scores and undergrad GPA and curricula. If anything, those qualifications are already likely eased just to ensure that scant representation.

Ha! The Lib can't get all carried away and actually promote diversity of ideas. Their diversity only means Lib of different races -- even though they swear race I a social construct. odd how race exits when they want it to forward their agenda; but, poof, race doesn't exit when statistics reflect uncomfortable truths.

No, Obama went to Columbia which (not surprisingly given Obama) is even more Cultural Marxist than Princeton.

I was walking through downtown Princeton yesterday. A real rat hole populated with ragtag mutants and freaks and degenerate “academics.” Thank G*d for Hillsdale and Grove City.

Princeton, I can fix your problem in a second: You have too many white guys on your football team. Go out there into the hoods and get some real players (hey! pay them - like no one does that).

Not only will you fix your diversity dilemma but you might win some games.

They want real diversity they should admit some Conservatives and Libertarians to the faculty and student body. Like that’s gonna happen...

Oh, I've read portions of her thesis. Her and her husband have not changed. They both still think of America as a white racist nation that must be changed.

If they want to be really diverse, they should let in old people. I’d go. I’d go broke just walking a block or two of Nassau Street, you can’t buy a pretzel there without a line of credit. But the Firestone Library can’t be beat.

When I first saw the title of this post, I thought it was about having more conservatives on campus.
