The filmmakers behind the faith-based flick My Son were shocked when their low-budget movie was handed an R-rating from the Motion Pictures Association of America. Now, the church behind the movie is charging that the MPAA handed out the strict rating because of the films religious message.
First of all theres no [bad] language in the film at all, Jarod OFlaherty, the movies director, told Fox News. But when you compare the content that is this film to even the mildest PG-13 action movies that are out there, the content of our film comes in as much less graphic So it raises some questions about what was it in this film that got us the R-rating?
OFlaherty said hes convinced the rating had to do with the religious message the movie promotes.
I dont know that they set out to do something bad towards our little movie. I think its more of a reflection of how Hollywood views Jesus in general I mean the evidence speaks for itself.
He added that the churchs conversations with the MPAA about getting the rating changed have been unsuccessful.

Eh?
R means Religious?
Give us more religious films!
Naturally, they'll do everything they can do to minimize the Judeo-Christian influence on society, even to the point of using ridicule and would be happy to extinguish our influence on society in its entirety, if they can.
Gear up for cultural battle, folks!
Sauron,
Currently on vacation in Minas Morgul for the summer.
There are 10 times more churches than movie theaters. Distribute the film to churches and charge $3 to see it. You’ll probably gross $200 million.
Publishers used to print on there book covers, “Banned in Boston” even though it hadn’t been. Printing that rating made the book a guaranteed best seller. Maybe they should shoot for x?
In the post-Christian world of 'The West', an 'R' equals 'Religious', therefore 'Restricted'. (John 15:18 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.")
Hmm. Our documentary, “Rockin’ the Wall” got a G rating, which surprised me in that it is about rock music-—but we have one “salvation scene” in it.
Probably because to Sodom purity IS restricted!
That, or Christian movies are encroaching on market share.
The response is coded as if to say there is a possibility that the R was legit.
THERE are a lot of people whose choice for movies is R....
Hey, let it stand as an R rated movie, maybe the angels of the Lord have orchestrated this so MORE people will go see it.
Great for Friday the 13th...
MPAA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer: Former DemocRat Senator Christopher J. Dodd... ‘nuff said.
We no longer live, as RC Sproul recently said, in merely a POST-Christian world, but in an ANTI-Christian world.
So is there drug abuse portrayed in the movie? That’ll usually get them an R right there.
Is there a law that says you have to go through the MPAA for a rating? Why couldn’t these film makers have just skipped it, and send out an unrated film? Couldn’t there be other organizations that could determine ratings besides MPAA?
“Is there a law that says you have to go through the MPAA for a rating? Why couldnt these film makers have just skipped it, and send out an unrated film?”
No, there’s no law. But most if not all film distributors will NOT distribute your film without an MPAA rating certificate. And if you try to distribute the film yourself, most if not all theaters will refuse to show your film without an MPAA rating certificate.
Send out an unrated film, you may have people out there that will want to see it, but no one will want to distribute or show it in the first place.
