FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. Neil Young can keep on talking in the free world, but Fort McMurray wont be listening.
A local rock radio station stopped playing the Canuck singers music for a day after he compared the northern Alberta oilsands city to Hiroshima after the atomic bomb.
On-air personality Chris Byrne at Rock 97.9 then asked his listeners if the ban should be extended indefinitely.
Neil supporters were in the majority, but when station staff looked at their email addresses, most came from out of town.
So with local opinion firmly against him, Young has been pulled from the stations playlist. No more Heart of Gold in the heart of the oilsands.
Were going to continue with our ban, said Byrne, who said he used to play two or three Young tunes a day.

When it’s their ox being gored, now all of a sudden they find him offensive.
You don’t need Young’s leftist politics and moronic statements to justify never playing his music.
He’s a good enough guitarist, but when he opens his mouth to sing, you gotta hit the button.
Hes a good enough guitarist, but when he opens his mouth to sing, you gotta hit the button.
I had a housemate that called the band “Scusby, Swill, Trash and Dung.”
What surprises me most is the sataion and its listeners seem surprised how Young is acting. Surprised? Really??
Well, there’s always The Guess Who, Loverboy, Rush, etc.
“A Southern Man don’t need him around anyhow.”
Old man, look at your life, 64 and you’re such a bore...
First thing I thought of too. ;-)
> Hes a good enough guitarist,
Barf alert required for that statement. You need some exposure to real guitar players.
When l’m done working out, I’ll post some youtube links to good guitarists.
Young is typical of the many Canadians that fore sake the country of their birth seeking fame and fortune south of the border. Assh#le hypocrite best describes a man that uses a national foreign podium to slag Canada and hard working Canadians while he spends his royalties sitting on his ass in socialist sunny California. Otherwise Canada never crosses his mind.
The news here is that someone, somewhere was still playing Neil Young at all.
LOL!
My statement would be considered “damning with faint praise”!
Good for the station, and the local populace.
My thoughts exactly. Most folks under 45 don’t know who he is. Any banning will be good publicity.

Looks like a mine to me.
He’s and @$$clown
