Too bad some other passengers did not help him.(If they did the article doesn’t say it). That was the best chance to stop the terrorists and prevent their own deaths.

IIRC, the first FDNY casualty was not in the towers, but was a FDNY Chaplin who took off his helmet to pray for a victim and was stuck by debris and killed.
Most of them had been told all their lives not to fight back - talking and good dialogue ends all violence; don't get involved; be more sensitive
