RT's Maria Finoshina made it to the village following reports that government troops have re-captured it - but found pockets of resistance remain.

The simple comment from the officer saying “We know the area better” is telling. It means that the “rebels” fighting there are from somewhere else.

Sure. Name any other bankrupt jihadi hellhole and it is a point on.
Jihadis are just like homos with HIV. They can’t suffer their cutt-throat $300 GDP domestic environment by themselves and dreams to “bless” everyone around with their bug.

Secularism is one thing the Baathists have done right. Even in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, Christians could achieve high rank like Tariq Aziz.

Brutal yes but it didn’t have much to do with religion.

Why “Even”? Sunni Muslims are outnumbering any group in the Middle East but every decent nation are run and dominated by other groups. I guess generations of inbreeding and bad upbringing contributed a lot. In Saddam’s Iraq Christians were better positioned and overall better off than the majority of population.
