*A trustee for the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona wants to honor the memory of Trayvon Martin by naming an asteroid after him.
William Lowell Putnam III told the Arizona Daily Sun he wants to place Martins name on one of the hundreds of asteroids discovered by the Lowell observatory in 2000.
This is what the proposed citation for 2000 TM61 reads: Named in memory of Trayvon Martin (1995-2012), a student at Dr. Michael M. Krop High School in Miami, Florida. Unarmed, he was fatally shot in Sanford, Florida, during an altercation with the neighborhood watch coordinator.
Putman had pushed for the asteroid name last year, but the Minor Planet Center turned down the premature submission. Now that the trial has ended and George Zimmerman was acquitted, he is trying again.
Putnam said he wanted to find some way to honor Martins legacy.
As I see it, the social fairness showed to Trayvon Martin was very sadly lacking, he said. Inasmuch as I am the sole trustee of an institution which has some naming privileges, I want to do my share to see that this lad is remembered in an appropriate manner.
He already has a grave marker .... :o)
Let’s all “buy” a star and name them George Zimmerman.
Hey William, we have an old two holer at the farm that needs a name, but I’d rather call it a $@!+ hole than trayvon.
Only if they name someone bashing somone’s head into concrete after saint trayvon would it be appropriate. The lowell family are sick, self-loathing morons.
