Gee, I guess this means the "rebels" will be the only ones to have chemical weapons.

I can see them giving Putin the middle-finger salute and laughing their asses off at Obungo.

“They’re trying to help Bambi save face.”

Only on the surface. They know Kerry stepped in it.

Obama is not going to do ANYTHING other than go along with whatever arrangement will spare him from a humiliating, career ending House vote.

Great idea. It’s verifiable. It’s not likely to be controversial, and it avoids the chemicals from falling into the rebels hands when Assad falls.

This is brilliant maneuvering by Putin. The Syrian chemical weapons really have no value to Assad so he loses nothing by turning them over to the UN for destruction, and I have no doubt that he’ll turn them all over. This calls Kerry’s bluff that the US would call off the attack if Syria gave up it’s chemical weapons and leaves egg all over Obama’s face. Now if the US presses the attack they become the real bad guy and will face international blow back like you won’t believe. Putin with this move has boxed the US in and has left very little in the way of room to wiggle out of it.

This is all about doing the Saudi’s bidding as they want a natural gas pipeline to Europe and have paid off the Obama people to try and achieve that.

"Gee, I guess this means the "rebels" will be the only ones to have chemical weapons."

So Assad has to decide if he trusts the international community to help him if the "rebels" continue to attack him and takeover Christian villages...that means Russia will be "all in" vs the US/islamic rebels.

Hmmmmm what a mess. Why do we have to be on the wrong flippin' side?

Good point. I expect that in a few weeks, more chems get released, by the rebels, in rebel areas... and Obama will claim Assad didn't hand them all over. Invasion: Back on.

However, on the bright side, we've postponed global thermonuclear war by about a month, meaning I have more time to prep.

Putin, unlike the two year olds in the white house, uses his mind instead of just throwing things.

And how does Putin benefit from stopping the pipeline? It's a serious request, nothing sarcastic here...I am wondering if this pipeline would take cash from Russia since I know they are heavily invested in energy.

The Foreign Minister’s statement comes shortly after US Secretary of State John Kerry’s comment that the Syrian President “could turn over every single bit of his chemical weapons to the international community” to avoid a military strike on the country.

Following Kerry’s statement, a US State Department spokeswoman clarified that “Secretary Kerry was making a rhetorical argument about the impossibility and unlikelihood of Assad turning over chemical weapons”.

A Persian Gulf pipeline through Syria , then undersea to Europe would compete with Russian natural gas, which currently has an effective monopoly in Europe.

Perhaps the "special cargo" Russia shipped Syria negates the need for chemical weapons?

Note Vladimir meets with Iran in a few days.

“And how does Putin benefit from stopping the pipeline?”

Russian has an almost monopoly on Natural Gas to Europe, if the NG pipeline ever was built it would be a big loss in both income and power for Russia.
