If you had to stop and think about it for a day, would you still get that giant dragon tattoo across your back? Thats the question being raised by health regulators in our nations capital, where Washington, DC officials are considering a mandatory 24-hour waiting period before getting a tattoo or body piercings. "The licensee or operator of a body art establishment shall ensure that no tattoo artist applies any tattoo to a customer until after twenty-four (24)hours have passed since the customer first requested the tattoo," reads the language of proposed language of new regulations from Washington DCs Department of Health.

Well, if you read the bible there are many edicts against self mutilation.
In the Jewish faith, as well as the Catholic Faith, tattoos are highly frowned upon.
Not that too many people take their religion all that seriously.
You shall not make any gashes in your flesh for the dead or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord. (NRSV, Leviticus 19:28)
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body. (NRSV, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
My waiter/waitress last Friday night, at a local Italian eatery which shall remain unnamed, was a transgendered or transvestite person. I still ate at the place because I was with my son and I had promised him dinner at his favorite restaurant celebrating the start of class. Plus, I'm somewhat tolerant of these people, although not in acceptance of their choice(s)....
“not everyone who gets inked is under the influence when they do so. Id venture most arent, in fact”
The owner of a lime company told me that (at least here) you can’t get a tattoo when inebriated. It’s against the law. (She said, “You know these things when you drive limos for a living.”)
When did ACE Hardware Become a Jewelry Store?
Thats racist and against the Voting Rights Act, or something like that....
> So the Libs want people to wait 24 hours before they decide for sure they want a tattoo but they consider it infringing on their rights when Conservative Christians want them to wait 24 hours to decide whether or not they want to murder the child in their womb. Good grief.
Yeah, I think I mentioned it before, but I remember going into a Subway sandwich shop a few years back, and the guy making my sandwich had these long, gaunt arms, which had all these grotesque tattoos up and down them. Nasty-looking. By the time I got to my table with my sandwich, I had totally lost my appetite, and only managed to eat a few bites. Too grossed out.
Nonsense.
Who can forget the blooper in Martin Scorcese’s “masterwork” “The Last Temptation of Christ,” that had Mary Magdalene covered in facial tattoos, lol! I can still remember my friend Agnes and I crying out: “Oh, no! That’s so wrong!”
You really need to educate yourself on this, lol. They are a major taboo. When was the last time you saw a Hasidic with a tattoo? Or a conservative Christian? That doesn’t mean Jews and Christians don’t get ‘em.
Their arms look dirty. For some reason, chefs and kitchen workers are addicted to these things. Some sort of macho thing, I guess.
I know many Christians with tattoos.
You are quite the religious snob aren't you?
Thank you so much for those passages.
My wife was irate at her daughter for getting a tattoo last month; now she is really irate because it turns out the daughter spent the rent money on the tattoo and just got an eviction notice. Really, really stupid thing to do with five little kids in the house. We found out about all this through a third party who had read the daughter's Facebook postings (do something really stupid and then post on Facebook about it).
You’re completely uneducated about this. As far as I’m concerned, you can put tattoos on your forehead for all I care. But google “taboos against tattoos” and learn about their history.
I’m sooooooooooo tired of freepers and their lack of historical knowledge.
Washington, D.C. should have a 24-hour waiting period for politicians to act on 2,000-page bills that they haven’t bothered to read.
Wow, you are a piece of work. Hey newbie, why don't you find an website with more intelligent people.
Free Republic is obviously not good enough for you.
A waiting period for piercings doesn’t make sense. I’d love to outlaw tattooes.
Now I’m a newbie who doesn’t understand the history of tattoos and religion. Oh, Lord, spare me!
