A chilly Arctic summer has left nearly a million more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at the same time last year an increase of 60 per cent.
The rebound from 2012s record low comes six years after the BBC reported that global warming would leave the Arctic ice-free in summer by 2013.
Instead, days before the annual autumn re-freeze is due to begin, an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russias northern shores.

Well, he's done it. /sss
Chilly-woo!
Bush’s fault.
In the last month or so he claims that global warming is receding ... and he is taking credit.
I still think he comes out a nut case in history books.
Could be a dead cat bounce you know. Just sayin’. They could be right.
“Could be! could be! All I know is Everything You Know Is Wrong!”
We’re all going to die!!!!!
Even with the much below average temps this summer, it was still a huge melt because the ice is very thin and easy to melt. If the temps had been the same as last summer, we would have had another record low.
A rowboat expedition to the Arctic made possible by climate change
The four-man crew are due to set off in their 8-metre rowboat from Inuvik on 1 July, on a journey meant to showcase the extreme effects of climate change on the Arctic.
The journey itself is one of those consequences. The team hopes to be the first expedition to complete the route in a single season an ambition only made possible because of the dramatic melting of summer sea ice in recent years.
"This expedition has never been done before, and could not be done before," said Vallely, a Vancouver-based architect and adventurer. "It is being brought about because of climate change. There just is less and less ice."
Here is the end:
On Friday September 6th the Canadian Coast Guard rescued a group of American adventurers who were travelling the Northwest Passage on jet ski as part of the reality television show Dangerous Waters. We met these guys a number of weeks back as they blew past us on the Amundsen Gulf. We were fighting a strong southerly wind at the time that was intent on pushing us offshore when a number of small lights appeared on the horizon. It was in the early hours of the morning and only an arctic twilight illuminated our way. The lights bore down on us fast and before long we were surrounded by a pod of growling jet skis and their support boat. A cameraman was filming everything. We chatted with the group, wished them luck and watched them disappear into the night.
Hearing about their rescue just north of King William Island reinforces the certainty that our decision to stop in Cambridge Bay was the correct one. If motorized craft needed rescue then a human powered craft had no chance at all.
Weve had the opportunity to decompress over the last week and reflect on our arctic experience. We communicated with Eric Solomon - Vancouver Aquariums Director of Arctic Programs to share our experience and he made some interesting points in regard to the ice we experienced on the strangely cold year in the arctic:
But the SUVs burning the planet!!
“how does this happen?.....was it wrong info to begin with ?”
It’s all been based on computer models. Anybody who’s ever taken a basic programing course knows about GIGO, Garbage In Garbage Out. To admit that they are wrong all those programmers and info gathers will have to admit to major mistakes at the least, fraud as a middling or crimes against humanity near the top and even perhaps premeditated murder.
The mean annual global atmospheric temperature had been essentially flat-lined for 16 years.
Boy, that was a production!
If it wasn’t for global warming — Chicago would still be under a mile of ice.
So much for the “Global Warming Bull Crap” politicians were hoping to cash in on via taxation, for this and for that. Not to mention that Airhead Gore got a Nobel Price from his socialistic brethrens for promulgating this crap.

“Scientists project that the Arctic will be ice-free in the summer of 2013. Not in 2050, but four years from now.” - Noted climate expert John Kerry 8/31/2009 Huff Pro Green
The Antarctic region has been seeing records in sea ice for the past few years, and this year has seen even more sea ice down there. This has not been reported. The rug is about to be totally pulled out from under the global warmers, with global temps NOT increasing as predicted the only talking point they have left is Arctic sea ice, and now it’s increasing.
Woo Hoo! I’m a Yankee transplant to the South - missed the 4 seasons and might be on the brink of getting them back...
