Gold miners in remote Alaska town want answers after task force storms in

Some miners in Alaska want the feds to start digging for answers.

A task force including members of 10 state and federal law enforcement agencies descended on a gold mine in the tiny town of Chicken (pop. 17) last month, in what locals described as a raid.

“Imagine coming up to your diggings, only to see agents swarming over it like ants, wearing full body armor, with jackets that say "POLICE" emblazoned on them, and all packing side arms,” gold miner C.R. Hammond told the Alaska Dispatch. “How would you have felt? You would be wondering, ‘My God, what have I done now?”

A spokesman for the federal Environmental Protection Agency did not deny that agents wore body armor and carried guns, but said it was not a "raid."

"The ongoing investigation conducted by the AK Environmental Crimes Task Force -- consisting of EPA, ADEC, USFWS, ADFG, BLM, Coast Guard, FBI, Alaska State Troopers, NOAA, & US Park Service -- did not result in a raid," the statement read. "The Task Force members involved in the investigation during the week of August 19, 2013, were EPA's Criminal Investigation Division & Bureau of Land Management's Office of Law Enforcement & Security, in cooperation with ADEC's Environmental Crimes Unit."

The investigation was into possible violations of the Clean Water Act, according to the EPA.

That there is anything called "environmental crimes", much less that is has a task force, is sickening.

I think they forgot a few alphabets in that list: CNN, MSNBC, BYOB and WTF.

Let that sink in for a moment.

There are a lot of tiny towns here in Maine that look like this place.

There’s no reason for body armored, jack booted thugs from a benign department such as the EPA to be allowed guns in the first place, It’s a wonder they didn’t have ninja suits and helmets! This is what happens when government employees are given guns and badges as the power goes to their penis-sized brains and they get into the Rambo mode. What’s next, FAA inspectors with guns checking airline aircraft tires for the correct pressures? It’s for our safety comrades !

And it wouldn't be hard to disappear into the wilderness there as Chicken IS in the wilderness. It is on a dirt road which is closed from OCT to May(Taylor HWY) between Eagle/Eagle Village, AL (pop 150) and Tok, AL (pop 1200) all near the Canadian border. Let's just say, the Caribou outnumber people a 1000 to 1 roughly. The hardy souls who live in that vast wilderness are sure to have had a real hard time with this happening.

Drones can find Whitey in the wilderness.

This is a message from Obama and Eric Holder to Whitey.

"No matter how remote your town or how sparsely populated...we can get you."

"Furthermore, Honkey...make sure you take note that we aren't interested in curtailing black crime in Detroit, Chicago, or Baltimore. We are coming for you, Whitey."

"After all, this is payback."

It is hard to imagine how much Obama must have hated his white grandparents. But then Hate is a powerful fuel...a powerful master.

It will eat Obama's spirit...but not before there are dead bodies (and, he hopes) spirits galore.

"did not result in a raid"

A swarm of law enforcement officers wearing SWAT-like uniforms with POLICE emblazoned on them, wearing body armor, and packing weapons, is a RAID. If they are investigating clean water violations, you send in a couple of scientists with clipboards and lab equipment, and maybe a couple of investigators, and a PR flak to talk to the locals and explain what they're doing.

FYI... Chicken only exists due to miners and is actually one of the few surviving original gold rush towns left in Alaska. Basically it is only 7 or so people who live there year round, but more help comes in Summer to help run the cafe. This quaint little shack (decorated w/thousands of business cards hung on the walls by tourists), serves travelers to this remote area usually on buses or RV’s between Dawson City, YK and Tok, Alaska. It is a dirt road that is closed Fall to Spring. Named after the local bird Ptarmigan. WTF??? The miners couldn’t agree on the spelling of Ptarmigan, so to avoid embarrassment, they agreed on Chicken.

When you’re a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Local pols need to defund their police departments, that’s all it’ll take. Cut their budgets.

WTF does one call it then when so many government agencies INVADE a town of 17 people?

I'd certainly call it a RAID ... and INVASION might be more appropriate!

This Government no longer represents or works for us, these jack-booted THUGS are doing their best to try and intimidate us ..... I say, the backlash is going to be a bitch. There's a storm brewing ... I hear it every day from people who are pissed off. Often times in the elevators on my way to my office from complete strangers.

Yep, there's a storm brewing and the BASTARDS are going to get what they deserve one of these days soon.

I read somewhere that those mine shafts are very, very long and very, very deep. Perhaps someone should have suggested that the task force make a complete inspection of the interior of all the passageways - without taking a canary with them.

I am related to a mess of em and those pretty much HATE the federal government.

But the moochers have found thier way up there as well.

I blame the discovery channel and Mike Rowe.
