Touted as a way to quit smoking, the latest data raise concerns that electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, may actually be a gateway for teens into tobacco use.
~snip he said. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug. Many teens who start with e-cigarettes may be condemned to struggling with a lifelong addiction to nicotine and conventional cigarettes.
Most addictions to nicotine start at a young age,...suggest that a vast majority of students who use e-cigarettes also turn to conventional tobacco products as well.
~snip Whether e-cigarettes are actually safer than regular cigarettes isnt clear; a recent study found that e-cigarettes can cause increased resistance in the airways, making it harder to breathe, within minutes of inhalation of the vapors, while other studies have suggested the products can help smokers to quit.
The Food and Drug Administration is currently studying the data on electronic cigarettes and plans to issue a regulatory rule on the products soon. ~snip
The agencys rule will certainly take into consideration the question of how teens are using e-cigarettes, and will consider studies that investigate whether the products serve as a gateway to other tobacco use. About 90 percent of all smokers begin smoking as teenagers. We must keep our youth from experimenting or using any tobacco product, Dr. Tim McAfee, the director of the CDC Office on Smoking and Health said in a statement.
If, as the results suggest, e-cigarette use is tied to tobacco use among teens, then electronic cigarettes could be just as enabling as conventional cigarettes for nicotine addictions. These dramatic increases suggest that developing strategies to prevent marketing, sales, and use of e-cigarettes among youth is critical, said McAfee.

I was once addicted to youth.
What do you propose to do about that?
I’m addicted to work. It makes me feel good to do useful, constructive things, and that makes me want to do more work so I can feel that some more. It’s horrible.
Drango doesn’t like tomatoes because they have nicotine.
When I was a kid, cigarettes were available in vending machines outside and retail store.
They cost $0.25 and you got two new pennies under the cellophane.
I don't and didn't see anything wrong with that.
Elfersupper likes turning kids into addicts.
I first smoked at age 9.
Sometimes I smoke, sometimes I don't.
I've gone for years at a time either smoking or not.
What is your problem?
Dango likes labeling everyone with a taste he or she disagrees with as an "addict"
The next new car I buy I’m going to buy some E-ciggs for when I’m driving. I can smell the smoke when I get in the car now.
Elfersupper and the rest of the “addicts” list seem to have a real problem acknowledging teenager addiction.
If I had posted that teenagers are graduating but can’t read their diploma, or twelve-year-olds are having babies, fifteen-year-olds are shooting one another, seventeen-year-olds are dying of AIDS, there would be little controversy.
But because I touched their own personal addiction they go ape-$h*t. Deal with it, the smoking wars are over.
do you see anything wrong with making Hello Kitty sex toys available to elementary school kids?
just wondering
I think adults and parents have a duty to look out for children. Children are not little adults.
Drango, you put up these tobacco threads to start pissing matches.....it’s time you friggin just admit it.
Wifey and I went the ‘Vapor4Life’ route almost two years ago....all our docs are aware and have not hinted that we stop using ‘em.
Good for you. Should teenagers start vaping?
Is that question vapid?
I see what you did there. Touche.
Vapioso! What better than vaping for the vapid crowd? Fits them to a T.
They can go as low as 0% nicotine if they like. Personally, I think guys like you wouldn’t be so rabid, though, if the e-cig industry did a major rebranding, reshaping and renaming of the devices.
I don’t see how to get around nicotine being nicotine.
I’d still oppose them on PRINCIPLE. A few of us still have those, no amount of “rebranding” is going to change that.
How about ..... Abortion has been rebranded as Fulfilling Life with Unlife Measures, FLUM is FUN.
Doesn’t change anything.
hey elk, heaven does have better music. the problem is not a wimpy heaven. it is wimpy christians.
