Is this a case of religious freedom? Or unlawful discrimination?
The state of Oregon says if you run a business, you've got to serve gays even it goes against your religious principles. So when a gay couple wanted to order a wedding cake from Sweet Cakes bakery, the owner, a devout Christian, refused.
The couple sued and the Oregon state Bureau of Labor and Industries, after conducting an investigation, ruled that the bakery had to serve the gay couple.

On Aug. 14, Oregon's state Bureau of Labor and Industries reported its investigation to determine if Sweet Cakes' actions violated the Oregon Equality Act of 2007, which states that people cannot be denied service based on sexual orientation. The law provides an exemption for schools and religious groups, but not for private businesses, according to a BOLI news release.
Since 2007, Oregonians have filed 11 complaints of unlawful discrimination in public places under the 2007 equality law. BOLI found no substantial evidence in five of those complaints but parties negotiated settlements in three other cases, including one this past week where a bar was fined $400K for keeping transgenders away.
The Sweet Cakes case is still being reviewed by BOLI investigators as of Aug. 30.
A note on the shop's Gresham door Sunday said the following:
"This fight is not over. We will continue to stand strong. Your Religious Freedom is becoming not Free anymore. This is ridiculous that we can not practice our faith. The LORD is good and we will continue to serve Him with all our heart.

The folks should change their business to a cake art gallery, specializing in commissioned pieces. That way, they could agree to deliver only pieces which would comport with their opinions and free speech rights.
Its not that gays were refused service, the bakery just refused to make a gay wedding cake. Gay people are clearly welcome to buy baked goods there, the owner just refused to acknowledge gay marriage. I believe they have that right. What if I wanted the bakery to make a tribute to beastiality cake, would the owner have a right to refuse to make that cake?
It appears we are losing this war. I wish this store would not close.
If we followed the constitution, this business would STAY OPEN and need not do anything at all.
As for the homosexuals, they would go find another place that will accept their business.
It isn’t tolerance that they want — THEY WANT TO FORCE ACCEPTANCE ON OTHERS and the government is in cahoots with them.

They need to start anew with an LLC and wait to get sued, close it, and start again.

I think my two favorite terms to describe these people are “turd burglars” and “clam lickers”. Feel free to use these very descriptive terms in any polite conversation.

They should start a mail-order business, I think plenty of conservatives nationwide would love to give them some business.

Christine Quinn, the lesbian speaker of the New York City assembly, who is running for NYC mayor, THREATENED to FORCE Chick-Fil-A OUT of NYC for the “crime” of standing for traditional marriage.
She wasn’t successful then, but wait till she gets elected mayor...(I hope not)

That was my point in a previous post on this thread — THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO. The constitution is on their side.
A Christian organization like the ACLJ ( with the support of Mark Levin’s Landmark Legal Foundation ) should file suit that would make this a NATIONAL ISSUE.
This is our constitutional right we are talking about. If it can happen in Oregaon, it can happen ANYWHERE in this country.
Better to settle this issue once and for all.
There are dozens of bakeries in the Portland area that will gladly make a lesbian wedding cake.
That's not what this was about. It was about using the machinery of the state to intimidate Christians.
